Photographer's Note
The first blossoms to bloom in the Tokyo area each year are the "Ume" or "Japanese Apricot" blossoms. This was in the grounds of the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum.

The reason the background is so blurred is because I use a 100-300mm lens at it's full extent with the widest aperture for the lens (5.6 when at 300mm). This on a Canon D30, because the lens is calculated at 1:1.6, means it is actually 580mm. I moved well back, as the subject was actually quite close, and mounted the camera on a tripod to avoid camera shake.
