Photographer's Note

This is another picture from our visit to Mt. Bromo at Feburary 2011.
Mount Bromo (Indonesian: Gunung Bromo)is an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia,2,329 metres high.
The massif area is one of the most visited tourist location at Java.
Mount Bromo sits in the middle of a vast plain called the "Sea of Sand" (at the bottom of the picture). The typical way to visit Mount Bromo is from the nearby mountain village Cemoro Lawang: The rim of the crater was possible to reach by narow path following by 250steps. Because of present activity of the volcano is this path and steps now closed. Steps are still - despite to ash - clearly visible on original RAW picture, but on TE picture, due to compression their visibility is limited. Our visit to Bromo was adventurous; we came to small hotel in Cemoro Lawang village late night and have been wellcoming by noisy volcano detonation. Four hours later, at 3.00 a.m.we started our trip to the viewpoint high over the village. Outside was absolutely dark, temperature around zero Celsius, heavy rain of volcano ashes. But the result of our efford was incredible - we never before saw such unearthly view of active volcano, heavy clouds of ash, all going along with noisy acoustical effects....
