Photographer's Note

Another off beaten track shot in the early hours of the day on a secluded spot in North Maluku province just as the sun rose up and bathed in hot warm glow, seen from black sandy beach at Gufasa small fishing village in central west coast of Halmahera Island - the biggest island in the group of some three hundred islands better known then as the Moluccas. Halmahera island is still untouched by outsiders, densely forested rich in flora and fauna, scarcely populated, mountainous and rarely visited.

This shot was made as morning was breaking over Molucca sea and the three volcanic islands partially shrouded by thick layers of warm clouds in the distance. The legendary hyper active Gamalama Volcano 1750m on Ternate island - second from right of picture had experienced of at least 70 eruptions over the past five centuries and most recent eruption was in 2003. The scary intermittently smoking out volcanic fumes and dust on the island is considered as normal daily affairs to the islanders!! The less active Kiematubu Valcano 1700m on Tidore island - first from left of picture is now probably in slumber land.

Nature continues to amaze me, being there during sunrise gives me a very special feeling of silent solitude and peace....
