The meeting of two rivers, a photo from Jammu and Kashmir, North

Photographer's Note

We were travelling around Leh to various monastaries, and were on our way to the Alchi monastary which was built in the tenth century.
We were here in winter so the temperature was about -18 degrees celcius. This point is the meeting of the Zanskar and the Indus rivers. The drive through the Himalayas is also spectacular.

Wonderful place and great image.Good composition with the triangle built by the rivers and good depth.The color of the water gives agood contrast with the vegetationless landscape and I like the road leading into the valley.

I like colours, composition and specially river colour. Only sky is too noisy - it is no good and needs improvment.

Hi Wanda,
We are seeing so many pictures from Ladakh these days but hardly any taken in the winter. This is an exceptional shot for the colours it provide. During the regular tourist season June-Sep, you never get to see waters so green and ofcourse the snow one can pick out. With so few tourits it must be a great experience to wander around Ladakh in Dec, though some places would remain inaccessible.

A nice shot of thge Zanskar and Indus, one can ealy see the ice on the river. I published a similar picture on TE from there which I made in 1995 in Summer.

Dear Hogen,
The mountains over that particular Himalayan range are baren and rugged.

Excellent photo from Leh-Ladakh...almost a biclour shot---the typical sea-green of the strip like river and the brown mountains...
only there are few grains in the sky portion, but overall, the photo is like a painting and I think, a journey through the road is memorable! Thanks for sharing it to TE.

The beauty of Ladakh is found on these hills.
Mysterious Green water is beautiful.

But missing the blue sky in this shot.

Great sharpness, color in a near perfect composition, Wanda. I like the interplay of light and shadow on the mountain top along with the green river water. Miss the blue sky, though. But you didn't have that luxury. TFS.

such an incredible gallery of photos from all over the globe and I can't believe that this is the first time that I have come across it on TE. well partly it is my absence from TE that is to blame.
As for this photo .. let me just say that I have visited this place numerous times ... but I have never been able to take such a fantastic shot of this very important confluence.

to borrow your word, this is a spectular scenery! the colors are pastel-like, so easy on the eye. the compo well depicts the "meeting" of the 2 rivers between these barren mountains.
