Photographer's Note

This woman, from the state of Karnataka, was working at the renovation of St Augustine tower conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India, in Old Goa, which was Goa's capital until 1843.

She, along with other women was carrying huge stones on her head all day long.

J'aime bien l'unitй de tons entre la peau de cette dame et le fond floutй... Le regard est direct et procure un contact intense avec ta sujette (difficile de dire "ton sujet" en cette journйe de la femme!) Le cadrage serrй et l'arriиre plan neutre se combinent bien pour donner le maximum d'impact а ce portrait.

Sometimes I wonder how many people really enjoy life and how many are driven by basic needs and instinct. This lady shows no emotion but, clearly, there is a huge hidden human spirit inside. The longer one looks at this image the more mysterious it becomes. Initially just a snapshot....ultimately a human being with needs and feelings and emotions. Best wishes.
