Steps, a photo from Maharashtra, West

Photographer's Note

Shaniwar Wada, the stately mansion of the Peshwa rulers, located in the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India, was ceded to the British in 1818. In 1828, a fire of unknown origin that is said to have raged for seven days gutted down most parts of the building sparing only the five teak gateways and the nine bastions. It is still a mystery why the fire was not put down or noticed by the people. Shown in the photo are the steps leading to the top of one of the bastions.

I was not sure whether the colour or the b/w version was better/worse, so I posted both, the b/w one as workshop.

Hi Satya
A very mysterious image, the point of view you chose here has a lot of drama, and looks like a scene from a movie, especially as the man at the top is looking over his shoulder as if he may be being followed! Great use of the light here to create these strong, bit not overwhelming shadows. Nicely done! I prefer the color image personally.

Hello Satya,
well handled light in here and good framing by using the arch in the composition. The steps lead nicely to the person at the top of them. Good detailing and well balanced colors and sharpness.

The lighting was certainly not easy and black and white might be a better choice, but both versions work well in my opinion. The upwards point of view looking over the well worn steps toward the is very effective and creates a sense of drama. Good rendering of the textural detail.

both the way up and the narrow view upstairs are interesting, there's a very good connection between them and I think that, apart from your tight composition, the smooth lighting and the harmonious colour palette play a role in this too. I like very much the perspective, the textures and the play of light and shadow. The b&w is lovely and atmospheric too, you've managed the greys very effectively. Congratulations and thank you!

Great that you have reasonably managed brightest and darkest areas of the scene with enough highlights. the contrasting blue strikes as strong point of focus and all are pleasantly viewable. I love in particular the rustic textures of the wall and its aged colours. Excellent shot and TFS.

It looks mysteriously, an old bastion, stone steps, that lead to nowhere. Nice idea for the photo with good light management
