The Monsoon Train, a photo from Karnataka, South

Photographer's Note

Monsoons have finally arrived in India, though they are quite subdued, thanks partly to El Nino.

And when the rains come, what could be better than a train journey through the Western Ghats, a mountain range that runs almost parallel to the western coast of Indian peninsula!

India, being such a big country, has a huge network of railways (115000 kms of tracks) and several administrative wings, Konkan Railway being one of them and which is being used by the trains in the picture. This particular moment is from an early morning after a spell of fresh rain, with the fastest train on the route, the Rajdhani, approaching us from the other side, as I precariously perch myself on the footboard to get a good shot.

Hello Apurba,
The photo looks very blue, but I suppose it may be because of the early morning light and maybe the monsoon clouds. I like the composition with the curving train and tracks. It brings back memories of exciting train journeys in India. Maybe I have passed this very spot going from Kochi to Mangalore (unless this is further north).

Bravo pour cette prise de vue d'un train en mouvement. Les voitures prenant le virage accentuent l'effet du train en marche. La prйsence d'une locomotive venant dans notre sens joue un rфle non nйgligeable йgalement dans l'intйrкt du cadrage et de la rйactivitй photographique.

Beautiful view of the speeding train. Well composed with the rock and the foliage on the left. The slightly hazy view adds great atmosphere to this early morning shot.

Dear Duttaji,

Yes the monsoon express is so late this time. Northern India is drying due to lack of monsoon.

However, you have clicked a very good image with good composition. Looks like an early morning or late evening taken pic.

This is rather a dynamic bit of landscape, immense perspective and depth, the strong converging curvy lines leads the eye to infinity stretching the view all the way. Its adequately exposed, with enough interest - detail and placement with good sense of motion effect timely shot. The bit of shine on the train is lovely addition to catch the eye. May I suggest you check the colour balance again it appears that magenta-is slightly overpowering here, to otherwise will look natural. Hope my honest suggestion is acceptable to you. Like trains and travel in them in India, interesting note and good composition taken just at the moment a ray of light is on it

But , as everybody said is bit too bluish, may I suggest you to post a WS with a simple correction?
