Photographer's Note
The sculpture is of Lord Parsvanatha, the last but one Jain Tirthankara. He is standing in the "causal posture", a yogic position important for meditation, and employed in many Jain rituals. When meditating, he may have stood in this fashion for days and even weeks at a time. He enjoys the protection of snakes and disciples while contemplating the eternal verities. (Possibly 8th century)

Kia ora Ken,
Good detailed picture of this Jaina tirthankara. It brings back memories of my time in India as a tour leader 30 years ago - was it really that long ago!! I used to visit several Jain sites in northern India, all very intricately detailed. Cheers, Neil
