Photographer's Note

In 1834, the Dogra power was at it peak in Jammu and Kashmir. Zorawar Singh, the General of the Dogra king of Jammu, led an expedition against Ladakh and captured the capital Leh. Thus, Ladakh came under Dogra suzerainity. The royal family of Ladakh was shifted to the palace at Stok, where they continue to live till this day.

Apporximately 15 kms away from Leh, after crossing Indus river, we reached a scenic area facing high mountains (Altitude 12,000 feet). This road was heading to "Stok Royal Palace" of exiled kingdom of Leh Dynasty. One can see Stok Palace in the lap of mountains on the right side of the road in this picture.
