Photographer's Note

A pomegranate stall in New Delhi. The pomegranate originated from modern-day Iran to northern India, and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region. India and Iran are the world biggest producers of pomegranates. The fruit is a good source of fibre as well as vitamins A, C, some B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, potassium and iron. Two compounds in pomegranates - punicalagins and punicic acid - are responsible for most of its health benefits. They also have antioxidant activity three times higher than that of red wine and green tea. Source : wiki, bbcgoodfood.

A superb daily life scene at the outdoor fruit market. The woman in the yellow sari appears interested and is reaching for one of the pomegranates. I might have tried to exclude the man at left. But then you would have missed the woman's actions. What a conundrum! Tfs!

Hello Miguel,
Pomegranates are nourishing and nice looking fruits, but I have never managed to open one to pick out the seeds without having red juice splashing across half of my kitchen. You placed them well in the foreground but the star of the show is the woman reaching out to pick one.

Hi Miguel,
this fruit is not that popular in northern Europe I would say. Probably more in Greece.
I actually both two pomegranates last weekend but I was not sure how to open them easily, the juice is so intense red, I stained everything around.
The taste very intense as well.
Lovely street market scene.
Very good repeated motif of the fruit.

Hello Miguel,
Pomegranata has lots of good vitamins as you written, but lot's of glucose. The fruit must be red, strong-red color - than you know that they are ripe.
Hope you diod not buy from the stand in the picture, the fruit has no color at all.
Anyway, another nice capture from the streets of ND.

If I have followed the news correctly, you can no longer take this photo today.
The pomegranates and their sellers will still be there but the dense smog make it impossible to take a proper picture.

I don't like pomegranates, despite its beauty;
nice view of the people in the market. the colors of the hair of the vendor are very usual in old men in india. i guess it is done with henna.
