A pomegranate stall in New Delhi. The pomegranate originated from modern-dayIrantonorthern India,and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout theMediterraneanregion. India and Iran are the world biggest producers of pomegranates. The fruit is a good source of fibre as well as vitamins A, C, some B vitaminsand minerals such as calcium, potassium and iron. Two compounds in pomegranates -punicalagins and punicic acid - are responsible for most of its health benefits.
