Photographer's Note

Here is an odd nothing special which you may not find suitable for a sophisticated photo site like TE.

A lot of people smile when they see a tourist pointing a camera in their direction. This salesman didn't. Maybe he would have smiled if he had known he would eventually be shown to the entire world.

This is from Gori in Georgia, birthplace of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin, one of the grumpiest men that ever lived. Maybe this man was a distant relative of his, which could explain his not so cheerful attitude.

In the WS is a street sign from Gori.

Dear Gert,

Maybe he doesn't like the fact that his town is only famous because of Stalin, or maybe he just had a bad day. Who knows? And does it count? Its a nice nothing special anyway. I particularly like the plastic beer bottle in the front. I don't know if more developed countries know these kind of family size plastic beer bottles, but the are quite common in post-Soviet countries.

PS: I have to assure you that I have beer too in my stocks. :) I'm looking at the news with great interest that your government decided to try the herd immunity approach to the COVID instead of suppressing it as others try. I hope your health care system will endure. What is your opinion?

I could not help smiling when I saw this!
Your title is a perfect description!
I don't think I have ever seen a salesman view a potential customer with such malice!
I think the message is - "Put that dam camera away and get your wallet out!"
Having said that, this is a very well composed, angled photograph but ... no matter what, you just have to return to that face! My children would call this a fish face!! Ha! Ha!

yes, he was furious with your camera, but at least he didn't screamed against you as it was usual with me while in morocco. nice details of the products and despite everything it is a funny image. this remind me a farmer in southern chile and when an american tourist took an image of him he became furious. our chilenian guide tried to put peace in the moment but the men was irascible and the guide became ashamed because he had told us natives were mild, haha.

Gert, i have also photos like this one in my archives where the character is angry/not happy but i didn t publish them. The market sells clean and fresh cucumbers and tomatos. You placed you well to click, the post doesn t prevent from seeing each person in the scene. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Gert, The guy looks grumpy but at least he has no knife in hands like the fishseller from Jerez :). Nice view of cucumbers. I went along Stalin Avenue and of course, I also took some pictures of this sign.

Not all vendors smile at tourists' cameras. On the face of some you can read 'Again someone who will not buy anything'.
But this man's face is exceptional. It rather says ' Stay away from my booth'.
It's best that he never sees this photo himself.

Eye-catching, colourful image and at the same time really amusing for the expression on the vendor's face. I'm not sure if he's unhappy about his photo being taken or about the world in general.
Funny note in WS - the camera is very well place to give the image a symbolic meaning. If not for the fact I had known that before, I would be surprised to see this sign in Georgia.

Ah, ha, yes, this fellow does appear more than just a little grumpy! To me it looks as though he is about to pick up one of his cucumbers/courgettes and fling it at you. But maybe not.

In fact, I suppose there's nothing terribly wrong with being a little grumpy from time to time (I suppose we all fall into that category) but being pure evil is quite a different matter.

A very well composed (and timed!) photograph with lovely light, true colours and lots of human interest. Excellent technical quality too. And a fine simple workshop photograph to remind us that big brother is watching.

Very nice photo with the daily atmosphere on any street, magnificent cucumbers that man carries in his car, by the way he looks at you with an unfriendly expression, the tomatoes that appear also look good. I do not remember seeing pictures of you from Georgia, I was there last summer and I was delighted.
Good image very pleasing to the eye.
Colorful, sharp and bright are captured effectively.
