Photographer's Note
I go from one odd photo to another.
This is from Batumi, the Georgian "summer capital" at the Black Sea, close to the border with Turkey. One of the days I spent there a few years ago the clouds were heavy, occasionally bringing showers, and the sea was shrouded in this strange, greenish haze.
Batumi is known for its long beach attracting people from all over the country during summer months. There are lots of casinos, night-clubs and restaurants and strangely designed luxury hotels of international chains are mushrooming all over town. Personally I was not at all attracted by this pebbly beach, and on this dull day before the season had taken off there were very few others seen here, except for a minor army of idle life-guards.
I have added two workshop photos. Here is a larger version of the main upload.

Hej Gert,

Hello Get
The pebbly beach with the tired gentleman, the sea and the two ships and the hills hazily visible and the wonderful blue green shades, all add up to make a picture that is moody and out of the ordinary and utterly charming. The workshop pictures show the scale of construction activity going on. Buildings such as these would affect the natural beauty and ambience of a place but are perhaps important for other reasons.
Thanks for sharing and have a great new week ahead.

Hello Gert,
The summer capital of the country? You took this picture at the end of May. I visited Georgia in the middle of summer but I didn't go to Batumi. Your picture shows exactly how other travellers I met in Georgia described the Black Sea Coast in summertime. At that time I also remembered the dark days that once I had spent in eastern Turkey at the Black Sea coast. For certain reasons it seems that only the western coasts of the Black Sea (in Romania, Bulgaria, ...) offer the beautiful bright summer weather. Understandable that the guy on the picture looks desperate with his head hiding in his hands.
Of course you still have the modern architecture in Batumi, a merit the city certainly has and which we can see in the workshop. Malgo has also posted some pictures of it.
Best regards, Paul

Hello dear Gert,
Nice capture from Batumi taken with perfect pov and layout.
It's very close to mainland of Anatolia, and I know that many young turkish citizens are visiting the University in Batumi, specially for agriculture.

Ciao Gert
mette un po' tristezza questa foto, il cielo grigio, la foschia sul mare e l'uomo che si tiene la testa, sembrano tutti segnali negativi, in realtà la foto attira l'attenzione e sono convinto che sarebbe stata molto bella anche in b&w.
Saluti

Hello Gert,
Again you have given us a very interesting and informative note and also a fine trio of photographs to accompany it.
I can quite understand why you didn't find this place particularly attractive - and that same sentiment seems to be shared by the fellow in your main picture, sitting with his head cradled in his hands, perhaps wondering if he should throw himself into the sea! He does, however, have a companion who might help him to change his mind about that.
And even the buildings in your two workshop pictures don't look terribly attractive either. But perhaps the dull weather and that strange greenish haze didn't show them to best advantage.
Anyway, three very interesting photographs, each taken with natural colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Gert
The haze looks really strange indeed. I've never seen this kind of green hue just hanging in the air. The man on the beach (and probably the one behind him too but I can only guess) looks very bored. An alternative title for this image could be: "waiting for the sun". ;)
I'm amazed at the modern architecture you present in WS.
Best wishes

Hello Gert,
This is like the introduction to some film or book. The figure is seated, head in hands, gazing towards the misty ocean, with boats emerging from the gloom! There is definitely a story, here!
Personally, I love the contrasts of the pebbly beach and the indistinct murky b/g, it adds to the drama!
Shall we have some more of the story .... tomorrow?
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gert,
little wonder that there are so few people sitting on the rocky beach on such a hazy day,I guess that they are still enjoying the luxurious facilities of the fantastic new hotels.
More images to savour..

Hello Gert,
the weather wasn't pleasant at all that day. It's not only the blurry atmosphere and the low light or the "dead" colours, it'a also a kind of tension that brings people's mood down and causes headaches. The person in your photo, who is seeking an open space and some energy by the sea, illustrates the mood exactly. The description of the scene and its atmosphere is amazing, it's not a pleasant scene but it's both accurate and poetic. The workshop views have a more negative mood because these buildings look heavy and unattractive without light and bright colours around them. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hi Gert
interesting building in the WS photo, and i don't mean bigger one, i mean the tall super skinny building.
is it just me or does it look TOO skinny. Its only 3 apartment windows wide! and so tall...like it can fall over in a wind storm. take a look at it again and see what i mean. Looks like a pencil lol
I agree with you about the beach...these pebble beaches are aweful. Not exactly the beach you want to lay a towel onto and take a nap haha
the photo has a gloomy mood to it, especially with the guy burying his head into his hands.
interesting shot

Hi Gert
Very well exposed beach scape, and not the best light and colours given the cicurmtamces but there's enough detail and strong points in making this simple shot work. They bring it to life and into focus. Great work, TFS

Hello Gert, I was more lucky, after winter days in Swanetia the not so long ride took me to the summer in Batumi in May. I didn;t like the pebble beach but I liked Batumi, so different from other Geargian cities, with interesting modern architecture and lush vegetation. I find the photo odd, but with interesting mood.
I enjoy my trip. I planned to go today to see high Andes but yesterday we came late from the trip and I couldn;t organize any other trip, so I am a bit disappointed :(. Tomorrow I go already to Buenos Aires.
Warm regards Malgo

Hello Gert,
I like the composition very much with the man in contemplation, with the backdrop of the Black Sea. Exactly 100 years ago, when my grandmother and grandfather first got married, my grandfather, a physician, was posted in Batumi (Turkish Batum). My oldest uncle was born there the following year, and by the end of WWI they moved back to Istanbul. I've never seen photos of the area before.
Warm regards,

Hello Gert.
A beautiful composition, which highlights these three bands, which form the pebble beach, the sea a little shady and sky, the two ships add charm to the image, like that person who seems lost in thought, da a vital touch to it.
Nice color, in these natural tones.
Also, both sharpness and lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I like
Enjoy a good day.
Best wishes.

Hello Gert -
Why is the man holding is head in his hands I wonder? A hangover perhaps, or bad news imparted by his friends? He doesn't seem enamoured with the beach. I wouldn't be either... look at the sharp pebbles. I hope the sun shines for him tomorrow!
A shot that gets my imagination working.

Hi Gert,
Very nice, well arranged photo. Nice combination of the lonely man on the beach and the large cargo ships in background. The hazy atmosphere adds nice toning to the scene.

.
p.s. I red your comments to my Putrajaya photo (thank you very much). My photo may be misleading. Putrajaya is a very nice place to live, they have lot of water around, beautiful wetlands and excellent residential areas with superb bungalows. Close distance to Airport and not so far from Kuala Lumpur and only 3 hours drive to Singapore. They do not have any power overhead lines there and Hi Fi internet is normal standard.

There is no beach here, just shingles...similar to the Cote-Azur...except here the water is hardly azure, but I like how the water melts in the horizon with faint hint of hills in the BG beyond the water

Hi Gert,
an interesting composition where the men sitting on the pebbles beach seem to thinking about the troubles of the life, with the ships on the blurred background of the Black Sea.
It's a nice shot, very powerful visually.

Hello Gert,
This scene is quietly captivating. The colours are well defined and each layer brings a different quality of texture. Each layer also has its own point of interest with its own mystery. As we move further into the distance those features become more and more hazy. In this way we just keep going deeper and deeper into the mood. Wow.
With best wishes,
