Cool tower in Batumi, a photo from Ajaria, West

Batumi has some quite nice modern buildings. I have shown already Alphabetic Tower (with no success :)), here is the new Technical University Tower. I found this building really fascinating and made many photos.

It is the first skyscraper with an integrated Ferris wheel has been constructed at the Technical University in Batumi.
Inside the Batumi tower are offices, but on the outside, at an altitude of 100 meters, the tower features a ferris wheel with eight air-conditioned cabins that can hold up to 40 people. It is the first of its kind in the world.

This unusual feature, along with an 85 meter mast with a sail at the top, makes the building a challenging construction which has required wind tunnel tests to determine the loads and accelerations on the tower.

Furthermore, the building is located in a moderate seismic zone on soil which liquefies under an earthquake. This was one of the largest challenges on the project and led to a soil improvement strategy right underneath the tower in order to prevent the soil liquefaction.

Hello Malgorzata,
This is an amazing and extraordinary tower, which definitely didn't exist during my visit two years ago. At least I didn't see anything like this in the central area, although other quite spectacular buildings had been finished, mainly hotels. This looks very futuristic, like from a dystopic movie from the 40's. It is nicely surrounded by the trees, and the clouds provide a perfect background. The tower seems to be reaching for the sky, high above the clouds.

Hi Malgo,

You have written a very interesting note here which outlines what must have been very considerable challenges to the designers and architects and construction engineers of this amazing project.

Your photograph is delightful and this spectacular modern building with its tall tower and interesting facade is beautifully portrayed against a lovely blue sky with fine puffy white clouds and surronded by nicely arranged trees. There's a bit of grain or "noise" in the sky but, other than that, the light and colours are superb and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

Not everyone's cup of tea but at least the building demonstrates an imaginative approach and is not just another shoebox in form.Reading your note, a lot of trouble taken in ensuring the safety of the tower and the people.The sky and clouds match nicely the colours of the building. Now Batumi looks quite futuristic with your two last uploads here, of which both are of equal interest. That thing with the ferries wheel sounds quite intriguing and the challenges to build modern towers like this in a seismic zone must be immense. I wonder, there are no people around neither here or in the Alphabetic tower, where are they all?
Another thing that beats me here is the rather strong digital noise in this picture. Surely you hadn't to use a high ISO setting as the weather seems to be fine?

First skyscraper with an integrated Ferris wheel, that's the first time I ever read those words :) I agree with you, this is a beautiful and unique building, and you chose a very attractive point from which to view and capture it. The detail of the paving helps give a great sense of scale to this might, and fascinating tower. I am always learning about the world through photography :)

Hi there Malgo!

Your title had me interested right away...say it just like you mean it! :) It really is a cool looking tower, something for all architecture lovers to admire, and everyone else for that matter. Looks fantastic with the backdrop of those big clouds, a super contrast in element. I like that you left some open foreground space that gives us an idea of the plaza. It could almost pass for a giant, inverted pen. :) Hope all is going well. Take it easy. (I know, that's a lot to ask. haha)

Georgia not only has very interesting historical buildings from centuries ago but also as shown in your image a unique 'one of a kind' impressive tower building with varying architecture elements. I can not figure-out the ferris wheel, but would love to check out the Technical University Tower and go all the way to the top.

Yes, this modern building has a very beautiful design and it also looks impressive.
On your picture in the workshop (altered image #2) it looks even more impressive.
Here I like the presentation with the thick cloud masses behind it and behind the trees.
It looks like summertime there. This while the people I met on my journey through Georgia and who had been to Batumi last July, told me that they had no summer weather there but a lot of rain ...
That ferris wheel is really unique.
