Local shop, a photo from Dili, West

Photographer's Note

Small local shops like this is very common in Asia and I try to do much of my shopping in shops like this instead of big shopping malls. In many cases they have a surprisingly wide range of goods and if they don't have what you looking for, they can fix it within some minutes. This shot is taken near the harbour.

and with the same family running it!

the addition of the man carrying some local good really puts the shot over the top. awesome TE post

Hello Boa,
This place seems equal to the corner shop or bodega here in NYC. You can get some chips and soda. :-) It's great that the man carrying plants and vegetables was walking by. It's fascinating to see photos from Dili, since there are so few here on TE.

I love such scenes. Interesting small local shop but this guy with the vegetables is a real winner here. Many details to see, like TV antennas, laundry, flowers in pots. Excellent composition.

I think Bahasa Indonesia is still widely spoken here judging by the shop sign. This is a lovely little insight into local street life and their daily working activities showing the vendor plying the trade. I love his stride, the angled light & shadow and speck of vivid colours really gives this the extra oomph! A decent shot well detailed and exposed. Excellent capture, Congrats.

En trevlig bild med gott om fдrg och en stark kдnsla fцr den lokala miljцn. Mannen med oket har lyckats skapa bеde fina kontraster och bra matchning mellan grцnsakerna och egna trцjan. Jag kollade lite BNP-statistik, och Цsttimor дr inte allra fattigast i Asien, men snudd pе. "Rikare" дn en del lдnder i Afrika, fast BNP per invеnare sдger ju inte sе mycket om hur pengarna дr fцrdelade. Det дr hur som helst intressant med vardagliga gatubilder frеn ett land som syns sе sдllan pе TE som detta.

That's a daily life scene par-excellence, Boa.
Well caught the man with his vegetables carried in a tradituional way, stride onto the scene.
I see they have modern sat.dishes, sign of normal life.
An intriguing and well done photo.

What a fantastic picture with so much to see and the man with flowers is an additional addition.
For us as western people not to believe, but maybe a quiet area.
Perspective and depth are pleasant to look at.

Hello Boa,

Interesting notes.
I do like the idea of shopkeepers addressing the needs of their customers in such a proactive way!
The figure carrying the good absolutely makes this picture! He brings the whole to life. I just love the elongated shadow that is preceding him!

This sort of shot makes me realise just how different some parts of the world can be! There is still a lot to experience and enjoy!

A well detailed and well composed daily life-picture.
I suspect that East Timor is a fertile land. The man on the photo apparently has to feed a large family. But he chooses well for enough vegetables.
