This picture was taken in the Maliana, approximately 170Km southwest from the capital, Dili. I captured this woman selling betel leaves in the town market. A country that is extremely impoverished and devastated, I discovered a people who are extremely generous with their warmth and love.

I visited east Timor - Timor Leste, a month ago, and still, after a couple of weeks - have no idea what is that brown staff sell for.. located on the lower right corner..
They tryed to sell it for me for about $1.oo a piece.

Have seen Betel on photos from other countries, but never sawa the actual leaves -- and you have really gotten great detail of them here, along with the woman, the wonderful blue and red and green colors, and the effective framing and POV, -- Ellie
