Photographer's Note

A recent article on the China Daily web site said that "more Hong Kong families have declined to a state of living in poverty while the income gap between rich and poor has continued to widen."

"The number of people living below the poverty line hit 1.12 million, or 16.5 percent of total population, in 2003, compared to 1.07 million in 2001."

Yet because of the number of millionaires / billionaires in Hong Kong, the GDP per capita in 2003 was higher than that of the UK, France or Germany.

What makes Hong Kong different from other countries, is that because of its size, the rich and poor live in close proximity and 'walk' the same streets.

On the opposite side of the road, on the corner, is the Woo Cheong Pawn Shop.

Tech: Followed Jose's suggestions from my last posting and used B/W. Contrast +20. Brightness -6. Cropped, resized and sharpened.
