Breadknives, a photo from Guangxi, South

Photographer's Note

Some jagged rock formations in Yangshuo, taken from the pagoda lookout, reached by stairs, near the bus station. I do not know what they are called in Chinese, but this natural looking setting was a stone's throw from the city centre. Taken on a cold and misty January day with fog and intermittent showers. These are karst formations formed from limestone. The humic acid from plants dissolves the rock over time and has caused the discolouration from white to black.

Hello Chris,
Judging to your description I should have seen these "knives", but I don't actually remember them. But I remember the haze and clouds from my visit in October. The trees give us a fairly good idea of the size of the rocks and provide fine green/yellow surroundings.

The weather was not great for photography but it has not affected this fine shot, which is full of atmosphere as well as fine details.
Your composition is very strong and I love how the mist gives the depth by blurring the b/g.

La vйgйtation cadre bien les rochers. La prise de vue permet de voir les dйtails des rochers et des montagnes en arriиre-plan. La brume a un effet spйcial sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journйe.

Hello Chris, with this point of view I feel really up close to the rock formation sitting amongst the trees and plants.
It is an excellent composition with the foreground rock mirrored by the formation in the background.
The misty day adds to the beauty of the scene.

Hi Chris,
Grey weather works well on this case. Saturated greens of the foreground fade to grey on the background slopes creating strong sense of perspective. And those tall and narrow pinnacles are certainly impressive.

a different area with natural pinnacles, looks the ones of zhingjagie, but I guess it is in another region. these is a typical natural landscape when we think about china.
