Black Dragon Pool 2, a photo from Yunnan, South

Photographer's Note

I have posted so many pictures from my trip to China but still very few from Lijiang that is considered the most beautiful village not only in yunnan but also in China. (But I think I preferred Fenghuang or Dali).
Here another view of the iconic Heilongtan Pool (Black Dragon Pool) near Lijiang, under Yulong Mountain.
The mountain is not visible here, it is farther to the right.

Bigger and sharper beta picture

The Black Dragon Pool is listed in the Collections of Famous Pools of China because of its exquisite beauty. Its surroundings are all green with grass and shaded by swaying willow trees. In its waters, the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is reflected. At the far side of the pool, there are renovated buildings used for art exhibition such as the Moon-Embracing Pavilion with its own white marble bridge across the water.

An ancient legend lends the Black Dragon Pool its name; it is said that a long time ago there were ten wicked dragons that caused much destruction and did great harm to people. One day, one of the Eight Immortals of the Chinese legend "Lu Dongbin" subdued nine of the dragons and jailed them in a tower. Only the youngest black dragon was left, charging with protecting and benefiting the people as the price of its freedom.

This dragon is believed living in the Black Dragon Pool till today. The pool is divided into two parts by a bridge, and although the water is connected, the two sides are different colors and the fish in either side never swim to the opposite part of the pool. Moreover, for hundreds of years, this wondrous pool has never dried up, even in drought years.

It is a delight for me to see your pictures from China. Although it is on 'my list', I doubt I will ever get there now - too many other things to occupy my time and other places to visit. A nicely constructed composition with lots of interesting things to see. Very prettily illuminated with pleasant natural colours and good sharpness.

I love the tranquility that this photo breathes. The colours and light are most appealing and I also like the reflections in the calm water. The composition is excellent, the path lined with flowers makes a nice diagonal in the centre.

It's a very nice postcard with foliage on three sides and the bridge on a diagonal. A beautiful temple in the middle, people providing life and colours, fine reflections and perfect colours and sharpness. I couldn't ask for more, and I'm not even tempted to crop it anywhere ;-).

Hello Malgo,

I also liked Dali. But the water canals in Lijiang added there own charm to that town. Difficult to convey in a photo though. Fantastic reflections and good sharpness here. The bridge with its arches provides a focal point. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
Judging your pictures I think Fenghuang is a very exceptional place. Not like other places in China.
Here you present us a picture that could be described as more typical for the region. The pavilion and the bridge correspond more to our expectations for China.
But I wouldn't say it is less beautiful. Perhaps a bit less a surprise.
It's actually a pretty serene picture. It has good depth, a good composition and the clarity and sharpness are excellent.

non sempre quello che и piщ bello per i molti и bello anche per noi....
Dalla tua foto si vede comunque un luogo molto bello, la diagonale con il ponte tradizionale ci porta alle architetture classiche.
Tra non molto parti di nuovo, che bello, и sempre un piacere vivere un nuovo viaggio.

ale urocze miejsce! Podoba mi sie ta tradycyjna architektura w tak pieknym naturalnym otoczeniu. Ladnie wlaczylas roslinnosc na pierwszym planie.
Ja nie mam czasu nawet zeby nadazyc za Twoim reportazem a co dopiero zeby sie w taka podroz wybrac samemu :(

PS. To answer your question on the insignia, no I can't read Arabic script. I got the information from the panel on the wall. It is not easy to read Ottoman (Arabic) script; although I took a semester of it as a humanities course in college, I do not remember anything.

What a scenic spot. The small bridge and pagoda are beautiful. I like all the greenery and the reflections in the water. There are so many nice details: the flowers, the people walking by, even the line of clouds. I like how you used leaves to frame some sides of the view.
