Photographer's Note
This photo shows the Russian training ship, Nadezhda, that left a very grey Hong Kong yesterday, after a 4-day visit to the territories.
I took this photo on board the Star Ferry, that travels between Hung Hom in Kowloon and Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island.
The 109-metre vessel, is owned by the Russian Maritime State University and is the final stages of a 14-month round-the-world journey.
The Nadezhda is mostly used to train cadets how to sail, although the crew has also been carrying out scientific experiments.
The voyage has been timed to coincide with the bicentenary of the first circumnavigation of the globe by a Russian ship, also called the Nadezhda.

Another nice sharp HK photo. Nice contrast between the masts going up and the highrise buildings behind them. The picture looks a bit dark and low-contrast... I don't know if this is deliberate or not.

Good note to a really cool photo. It has a haunted look to it with the fog. It looks like something appeared out of the past in the fog, especially since it is so clear and vivid compared to everything else around it. You did a real good job capturing this, especially from a moving ferry. Very good job.

I love the way the boat is clear and crisp and stands out against the gloomy grey background. Nice composition and interesting note. Well done.

Hi Andrew. This is a beautiful ship, and an excellent capture of it! The colours are just great, and hazy Hong Kong in the background adds some wonderful mood to the whole shot. Well done!!

Le contraste des couleurs vives du bateau et de la brume en arrière plan est très joli. Merci pour les explications.
Very well done !

I really like this capture. The fog covering the modern city makes the older sailing vessel stand out very well. It gives the photo a surrealistic quality. Well seen!

There is a good contrast between the ship and the modern skyscrapers in the background. Your composition is excellent and the fog creates a nice effect.

Dear Andrew, the ship almost looks like a Ghostship standing so much out from the rest, have you done anything in postprocessing or is that just due to the fog ? Very nice picture !!!

I missed a lot of your photos lately - too bad.
This one real fine - I like the soft hazy background for this fine tallship. Very well spotted and captured Andrew.

L'atmosphère de la photo est très bien rendue. Je connais ce voilier plein d'histoire et de voyages autour du monde. Je me suis essayé à un WS et j'espère que je n'ai pas trop trahi l'idée que vous avais de ce cliché. ;-))

Wow!
The chosen angle is very suitable. The fog over the skyscrapers gives it a misty touch.
Well done!

Hi Andrew !
Fantastic shot showing the sail ship against the foggy city. It makes the ship more beautiful as the backgroud is almost monochromatic.
Congrats !
