Photographer's Note

This photo was taken in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong Island. The shop on the corner is a pawn brokers.

I was first attracted by the fact that this old rundown 3-floor building was still standing amongst all the sky scrapers, but then I noticed how many signs the little corner shop had - I counted eight.

The owner had seemed to abandoned the old green shop front and was now operating out of a smaller side entrance.

Of course being Hong Kong, I can't imagine that the property developers will allow this old building to remain much longer. As you can see its neighbour has already been redeveloped.

This part of the street also seemed to be a parking area for trucks.

Update 2004-07-09:-
Vic Tokarski's excellent photo Hong Kong Tramway shows this building in its entirety.
