Red Lanterns, a photo from Heilongjiang, North

Photographer's Note

These red lanters are up for last year's Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). The city is Harbin which is a looong way north in China. It's bloody cold, about -15C when this photo was taken, although some locals seem to be so used to it that they are walking around without a hat on. Harbin has a big snow and ice sclupture festival in wintertime, although this pic is from the main shopping street.

A very appealing scene. Unfortunately, the church draws my attention a bit too much. Tried to overcome this in my workshop.

A nice festive scene. Well framed. Personally, I like the church in the background, but I fine the guy's bright yellow coat a bit distracting. Good note.

lovely photo, the red latterns have brought a warm festival atmosphere,however people are in the street, I can feel they are all with family.

I like the bright red colouring of the lanterns and that fact that there are so MANY strung out there. I like the way the lines of the lanterns converge into the distance and take the eye down the road. Also the people in colourful clothes add to a very nice scene. Certainly for me it shows life in that norther Chinese town.
