Photographer's Note
This is the Bund, a famous area in Shanghai.
After the Opium War British obligated the China Empire to open its ports to western nations and this area of Shanghai, in front the river, was choose like a port and it was like an independent zone where many western nations had a special sector and built big buildings. These buildings were the highest of Asia in that time. In this region criminals found a refuge and prostitution and drugs were very usual.
These are some of the samples of the local architecture, that was a kind of arrogance and proof of progress of western nations above old China, curiously these old buildings look humiliated by the giant modern skyscrapers around.
.............

Hello Jorge,
Nice title for this photo!
You present us a beautiful and lively view of this famous district at the river side whereby we get a good impression of the atmosphere.
At the same time the old architecture is shown well.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Jorge,
This is a pleasant composition showing many beautiful buildings and lots of people strolling across the square. The man in the orange shirt in the foreground adds some brightness, but what an idiot he is! He goes out with such a nice girl and he just keeps watching his f***ing mobile phone. I am again a bit disappointed with you, that you didn't spend half a minute on making the photo just a little clearer and brighter. It's so easy. ;-)
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Jorge,
you title made me laugh! Indeed in some dialects they pronounce u like o.
I remember a lady talking to her child in the local park: "let's go we are going to feed the dogs" I thought it was strange to hear that someone intends to feed dogs in the park. But after she repeated it over and over and I thought about it longer I realized that she meant not dogs but ducks. But she pronounced it very much as dogs.
Nice street scene, and the couple adds a romantic touch.
As always I am going to express my sympathies regarding the dark weather, but I am glad it didn't discourage you from recording a fantastic reportage,
Very well done,
M

Hello Jorge,
A great view of this square and the architecture in the background, which could very well have been somewhere in Britain as well. Especially the tower and dome look great in front of the cloudy sky.

Hello Jorge,
I was almost surprised to learn that this was Shanghai for it ghives such a European impression, with its buildings. It could almost have been the quayside of Liverpool
You show a lively square, animated by many people and a well placed couple to dominate the f/g.
I read with interest you letters to and from Gert.
In some ways, I have to agree with him. I know I brightened your photographs a few times, a while ago, and they do look more attractive with just a little pp. But, am I wasting my time, you stubborn Portuguese guy!!! 😄
Still like the photograph,
Bev :-)

Hello Jorge
A fascinating clash of different cultures in architecture that, surprisingly enough, is also reflected in the visitors passing by.
A nice observation in modern China.
Excellent work
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

I walked many times along the Bund. I was working with Shanghai University - many memories here. Your POV allows us to focus on the old European structures. They are interesting to explore from the inside as well. Always a busy place with many vendors selling "stuff" along the way. Thanks for sharing!
Have a great weekend drt100 David

Jorge, that port becomes a recreational area appreciated by the city dwellers as a rallying point. The place attracts many people like the young and handsome couple in the fg. The new contemporary skyscrapers contrast with the old buildings reminding the past. Lively picture with a good sharpness.

Hello Jorge, This view from Bund I remember well. Impressive buildings and nice pink flowering trees. I have read your discussion with Gert. I agree with him, that some pp would be a good thing, very often your pictures ar rather pale, unsaturated. For you, there are memories behind them, but for the viewers, they are less attractive.
I read also your discussion about the difficulty with the English spoken in the different parts of the world. It is the case with other languages. Italian differs very much, Carlo can say from where the person is quite precisely. Ale german spoken in Styria or in Switzerland is difficult to understand. and what about Portuguese? I found this funny video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfs_PNA_R-M&t=292s.

Hi Jorge,
The presence of the crowd is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The cloudy sky does not hurt the colors output. Have a nice day.

Bonjour, cher Jorge,
A travers vos images, je découvre, j'apprends toujours quelque chose de nouveau.
C'est curieux de voir ces constructions anciennes côtoyer des bâtiments plus contemporains.
La mise en image est parlante à travers cette grande place.
Amitiés.

Hello Jorge, this scene looks surprisingly European, not what I would have expected from Shanghai.
Your notes always make interesting reading.
An excellent observation of life in the city.

Hola Jorge.
Calidos saludos.
Luis.
