Photographer's Note
Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat is a virtual pre-requisite of any visit to Siem Reap and mine was no different. Sunrise at Angkor has been well documented on TE, yet I decided to go ahead with this post at the risk of being termed cliché. It is an experience which is difficult to describe as I am sure all those who have been witness to this magical experience would agree.
It was 4.45 in the morning when I climbed aboard a 'tuk-tuk' and we were off. Despite the early hour and the darkness, the streets were already alive with procession of locals making their way into the temple complex by bicycle. The cool breeze helped to wake me up as we drove along the seven kilometre road to the temples. I was one of the first to arrive as the security guards opened the gate for the day. I settled myself on the stairway. Before me lay the inner courtyard with a 350 metre long paved walkway leading to the central complex, where the sun was due to rise above the five massive towers. However, at the time of my arrival, none of this was visible. I waited patiently as tourists began to trickle in. As dawn broke I realised there was some cloud cover behind Angkor which proved to be a blessing in disguise, providing more variation in terms of colour and sky patterns. I changed position to photograph the rising sun from different angles with the changing colours, luminance and the silhoutte it provided. As I said, words can never do justice to the whole experience. I hope my photographs in someway compensates. This is almost as I saw it, not much post processing except sharpening and contrast adjustment.

Well, this is certainly a dramatic photograph Sabya. I love even more than the colros, which are great, the effect the silhoetting has produced, in that the photo is flattened to eliminate all feeling of depth. You put the horizon bang on in the middle, from what i read this is a no no (hahahah rules, who needs them) but it sure doesnt feel like a no-no to me, the image is well ebalnced between the reflecton and the real temple.

Good day to you Sabyasachi.
I've seen this shot a couple of times today but have not had a chance to comment.
Marvellous!
Cliche or not, it's beautiful. Sometimes the music of a chorus of frogs is as beautiful as Bach. One must not always strive for the most mentally challenging, sometimes beauty at its most pure form is enough.
The rest has already been said.

Allthough this scene looks nice as a thumbnail, the postprocessing (with adding saturation/color/contrast) makes little white lines visible arround the silhouets. Maybe kloon them away or try postprocessing the original again with the HDR-option.

Hi Sabyasachi.
Clever work with the composition and the reflections over the water.
Even I would say impressive, because the light of the sky is like fire.
Well done and thanks for share.

Hi Sabyasachi,
Interesting capture here of the Angkor Wat, although I have to admit that I don't like this rather sharp contrast resulting in The light rim around the towers and the trees. Good contour thou.
All the best,
Michal

A very nice "cliché" that you have posted here. I think the colours are great and I don't mind the effects from the post processing at all. The reflection in the water is great and I really wish I could have seen that sunrise for real myself. Very nice post!

Who don't mind if it's a "cliché". Such a beautiful picture must be shown on TE. Thanks to share it. It's very beautiful and so peaceful.
The colors, tones and silhouettes are really fantastic.
I would like to be there just to contemplate this spectacle.

Hi Saby. This is a superb composition of one of the most photographed ruins in the region. Excellent creativity with these colour patterns. TFS. Murray.

This almost looks animated, like a cartoon.
The colours are so strong and so is the contrast.
I really like the effect but think it more suited to treklens.

Good photo and great note. Makes me want to go.
The picture has too much sharpening - I can see a white line around the towers.

I just got back from Siem Reap and looking at my own immages of the temple, I found they are lacking something. Your's is what I wanted mine to be. Excellent work. The colours are great. There is quite a bit of construction going on at the moment and you were able to hide that detail. I love how the temple reflects in the lake. Your other pictures are excellent as well.
