The most known view from Macedonia - the St. John church on Ohrid lake.

Saint John the Theologian, Kaneo is a Macedonian Orthodox church situated on the cliff over Kaneo Beach overlooking Lake Ohrid in the city of Ohrid. The church is dedicated to John of Patmos, the writer of Revelation, who has been by some considered to be the same person as John the Apostle. The construction date of the church remains unknown but documents detailing the church property suggest that it was built before the year 1447. Archaeologists believe that the church was constructed some time before the rise of the Ottoman Empire very likely in the 13th century. Restoration work in 1964 led to the discovery of frescoes in its dome.

Macedonia is my 80th visited country.

Ciao Malgo,obviouly i'm always curious to know where you been and finally i have the solution..ehehe...great choice of the season to visit Macedonia,good weather and not very hot,and the first pic is wonderful,not the first time for this famous church on TE but one of the best pic never seen,the view and the quality are the best as possible! Congratulations on having now visited 80 countries! :)

A fascinating note about this church and a very fine, almost aerial, view of it as its stands out proudly against the clear blue sea. An excellent and pleasing composition too and the procession of colourfully dressed tourists ads to the appeal.

So Macedonia is your next destination. A splendid day and a great view of the wide lake in the background. The lovely old church was very well placed in the foreground, adding a nice warm/cold colour contrast as well. The many visitors are well included without disturbing the view.

Welcome back, eighty is a nice round number ;-) Excellent downward point of view on this lovely little church perched by the sea. Evidently very popular with visitors, who help enliven the scene in this well constructed composition. Very pleasant lights and colours and excellent sharpness.

If you look carefully at my composition, you will see that the living statue is apparently stood on a box. In fact the box hides his real legs, the upper legs and feet are part of his costume. I am off on my own travels on Sunday; two weeks in Malaysia.

Indeed a very famous view, and possible the most beautiful building in all of Macedonia. I deliberately chose a different angle for my upload, but this has the benefit of being from above, so we can look down on all the visitors and see the lake as a background.
You had very good weather with perfect light and colours.

Hello Malgo, yes I have seen this church before, but never from this angle. This is a lovely scene with the blue sea making a wonderful background.

Gratulacje z powodu okraglej liczby odwiedzonych krajow! Osiemdziesiatka robi wrazenie. Czyzbym byl w Macedonii wczesniej od Ciebie - to pewnie jedyny taki kraj.
Ale widze ze tu na TE nie masz tez fot z Serbii. To bedzie 81 kraj czy już został policzony?
Z Serbia czy bez do tych 200 jeszcze troche podrozowania przed Toba, czego Ci zycze.
Ciesze sie, ze wycieczka udana bo roznie to bywa w wiekszej grupie. Poki co tej wycieczki biuro nie ma w planach na przyszly rok wiec calkiem mozliwe ze bylas na ostatniej edycji. Przyczyny nie znam, bo objazdowka na swoj sposob ciekawa, ale przynajmniej w moim przypadku powodzeniem sie nie cieszyla.
Ok, popatrze sobie na znane miejsca i odswieze w amieci widoki z wakacji :)
W tym miejscu w aparacie sama migawka strzela fotografie ;)

Hello Malgorzata, I loved Lake Ohrid when I stayed there in 1991 and I recognised this view immediately. The line of visitors leads our eye down to the building very neatly. The angle of the sunn looks as if it could have been a problem, but there is no glare, not even on the bright waters of the lake. Thank you for reminding me of this fascinating area.In 1991 the terracing had not been built - as you will see from the workshop posting.

you're on the move again :) I'm back home now from Vegas, I had a great time, even if i've been there so many times. There is always something new to see and something new to experience like shows, concerts, statues, sculptures, its always changing and adding. I know you don't like it haha. Nothing wrong with this Postcard, is this the group you were with? Looks like a tour group because there are a lot of people walking down the steps all at the same time, like the bus dropped them off 2 min ago. and even with it being back lit it still looks fantastic. Any interior photos? cheers

It's very rare for you to be going somewhere after I have visited it. Usually it's the other way around. You've made the tourist crowds work for you here by having them snaking in from the right corner in single file up to the impressive cathedral. The glittering light on the lake looks great. Perfect sharpness and high pov. Tfs!
