Photographer's Note
2010 Lyon Festival Of Lights. Another cool opportunity to get out there and shoot! This year there were a lot of tripods out there..
As a reminder, it happens on the 8th of December and has recently been extended to a few days after that.
The city expresses gratitude toward Mary, mother of Jesus on December the 8th of each year. This tradition dictates that every house place candles along the outsides of all the windows to produce a spectacular effect throughout the streets.
The festival also includes other activities based on light with 80 happenings throughout the city, set up by various artists, students or inhabitants.
On the picture, you can see the Hôtel-Dieu building, a former hospital, soon to be renovated into something else. The rays of light actually come from the Fourvière basilica, at the top of the neighboring hill.

Besides the fact that your lights are slightly overexposed, I really like this photo.
Well done

Bonjour Philippe,

Salut cher Philippe
What a sensations photo. The gold tones are truly magical and so full of the spirit of Christmas. The rays of light behind the dome are the icing on the cake. Superb sharpness, exposition and framing. The water in the FG is amazing thanks to the long exposure. I hope that your Christmas was spent with loved ones and was very happy with good food and wine flowing.
Bonne amities

Bonjour Philippe
Amicalement

Hi Philippe!
A great thing that I dropped by your page and saw this one on the featured photos. Excellent timing, the rays behind this infrastructure is a superb effect, the long exposure did a great reflection and nice touch on the waters. Love how the buses are aligned in front of this nice architecture. Great capture, I bet it would've been more stunning if this was shot in blue hour.
Best regards,
Matt
