Photographer's Note
The Komik Lundup Tsemo Gompa (Monastery) located above 15000 feet above sea level, in the cold Himalayan desert district of Spiti, shares territory with the elusive Snow leopards, Yaks as well as Himalayan Ibex. It is a part of the Sakya sect of Buddhism.
The monastery is cut off from the world in winter from November to March. Winters are characterized by harsh winds & heavy snow, many feet deep, with temperatures well below freezing.
The Komik Gompa (Monastery) was earlier located near Hikkim and had to be shifted to its present location after an earthquake destroyed the earlier Gompa. It is recorded that a team of Buddhist scholars of the gompa accomplished the task of revision of Tangryud - the Tantra treatises which in 87 volumes form one class of Tibetan scriptures. The lamas of this gompa are supposed to be proficient in tantra….we didn’t meet any of them that day, unfortunately!
In fact there are two gompas in Komik, old and new. They stand barely about 20 metres from each other. This is the old monastery with fresh red painted walls. I composed this picture with the wildly fluttering prayer flags (many of which were battered & worn by the harsh winds) on my face...I wanted the viewers to FEEL the wind

hello Angshuman
We can see the color contrast in the thumbnail: green flag against the orange wall of the house. The wind is blowing and the flags are moving, and in between, we can discover the snowy peaks. A good trek report.
Cheers

Hello Angshu, one of the "highest" photos in Trekearth, in terms of altitude from the sea level. Those soft coloured clothes make me feel the Himalayan wind. Congratulations, Tolga

Hi Angshu,
Felt the wind :)
Loved the way you have framed the shot. The fluttering prayer flags and the bright concrete wall of the gompa make a passage way for the distant snowy peaks and add to the chill and thrill of viewing the photograph.
Thank you for sharing this. I have been travelling the Himalayas through your snaps posted in TE.
Shubho Bijoya.

Paromita

Hello Angshu
Love the color contrasts here & the red font style adds context. At first I thought it was Hindi but on closer inspection I recognized it as English! You've created a new language, Hindish or Engindi! Good sharpness & effective tight framing. Love the prayer flags at right. Tfs!

Hello Angshu,
We have got to know this desolate place a little bit by now and you continue to use the colours of the walls and the prayer flags with an excellent result. This is an attractively composed picture where the cold winds and the silence can somehow be felt right through my computer monitor.
Kind regards,
Gert

Even if you have accustomed us with these extreme landscapes and exotic architecture, the colours palette here is really amazing! Red/yellow/blue/green/white: all so intense and so pure that it looks a supernatural environment (and probably it is! (:-) Fine and wild, poor and essential, very earthly and yet with a spiritual breath. This place is really the home of the Gods!
This is not a photo, this is pure light!
So good Angshu, but I have no words to say why!
TFS,
Donato

Hi Angshuman,
now all your photos could be called high altitude.
It has the feel of snow, cold, crisp air.
Beautiful view of the monastery and snow-capped mountains in the background.

Hi Angshuman,
the distance between the monastery and the mountains is gibving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the monastery. The afternoon light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hello dear Angshuman-san,
A very captivating three-part composition, the monastery to left in vermilion and the snow covered mountain peaks, and colourful flags moving in wind on right side. Personally I really like the way you have composed the photo. Especially those flags in motion speak quite clearly for this special environment. I can almost feel the strong wind passing right through me. A very harsh environment in which the monastery is situated can be felt. A very realistic image, and an extremely well composed photo are stunning.
With my very best regards,
Have a great weekend, Angshuman-san

Again you went very high, 4587 m - it is something. Amazing landscape around but these prayer flags coming to your face are the most important. Yes, I can feel the wind. I saw many such flags in Tibet and always liked them very much. Om Mani Padme Hum, as I remember the mantra.
Warm regrads

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
You amaze us again with a capture to a great height, with a very pure and clean atmosphere, which offers you a few vivid and natural colors on all the elements, under a splendid luminosity.
The harsh wind moves the prayer flags giving a great dynamism to the image, in an effective contrast with the architecture of the monastery and its red walls.
The composition is magnificent.
Best wishes,
Josep

dear dada,
a nice presentation here. The prayer flags at right foreground created a superb depth. The snow covered peaks at background are nice to see under the dramatic sky. The red walls of the monastery at left acted as another strong focal point. A great composition indeed. Asadharon chhobi. Tfs.
