A bicycle trip to the Netherlands, trip of 35 km totally.

Village DRAAIBRUG between AARDENBURG and SJUIS

The picture is taking on the west side of the small village.
The sheep grazing in the nature reserve part, made since 10 years

Until 1583, the village of Hannekenswerve was in the same place. This disappeared when the area was flooded in the context of the Eighty Years' War. In 1649 the Isabellapolder north of Aardenburg was built and in 1650 the polder to west Eede north of Sint-Pietersdijk, and with that Draaibrug came to lie on a narrow, diked water: the Aardenburg harbor or Ee, which was dammed and reclaimed only in 1813. Before that, there was already a road connection over that port channel, which included a swing bridge. This swing bridge no longer served as such after 1813, and in 1840 it was replaced by a fixed bridge and later by a dam. Since 2006, the Aardenburg Havenpolder has been developed into a nature reserve again

Hallo John,
Eйn schaap blijkt waakzaam te zijn voor de hele kudde.
Deze groep telt verschillende 'zwarte schapen' :) Maar voor deze dieren maakt dit niets uit.
Een mooi en vreedzaam tafereel, ditmaal over de grens genomen.

Hello John,
I think we more often see horses than sheep in your photos, and although horses may be more beautiful sheep are also very nice to watch. Here we see a few black sheep mixing with the white, but they seem to get along well. The mixture makes the photo more dynamic. There was a slightly cloudy sky yesterday but still a very good light which created beautiful colours. I like that one sheep is standing close to the fence as if it was posing for you. All the others seem to be eating. Only this one is polite. ;-) Or maybe it was a guard, selected to protect the others.

Quite lovely view of all these sheep grazing dry grass. Pretty timeless image, missing all modern details. The nearest sheep catches attention well.

Hallo John,
Een prachtig landschap met een wei vol schapen, waaronder enkele zwarte. De compositie is uitstekend met de boerderij links nog zichtbaar. De bewolking zorgde voor een mooi, zacht licht.

John, true and lovely rural setting. The sheeps grazing in the nature reserve control the weeds, they stabilise the polder ecosystem. Healthy animals, fine golden and green hues.

Dag John I notice there are 'more than one black sheep in the sheepfold'...could it be a bad omen!! Anyway the pastoral mood is clearly depicted in this sumptuous capture of soft tones, well adapted to the peaceful ambiance of your picture.

The length of the field is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the house and of the sheeps. The light is giving nice tints to the colors of the pcture. Have a nice day.

you know what, this is one of those shots where the longer I view it the more and more I enjoy it. There is something so peaceful and attractive with sheep and how far back they go into the frame is great too. I like the dim lighting and brown earth tones. nice. cheers

Hello John,

I think we are becoming very much more aware of the necessity to care for Nature as a means of taking care of our own future.
This looks like a very well run area, long grasses and flowers outside the field, whilst inside, the sheep are maintaining the nature of the fields.
The sheep make the atmosphere tranquil as they they content themselves with grazing, although one is on guard. Around their field is border of lush greens, a well placed farmhouse and gate.
It would appear that there is an information by the gate. I would assume that this details the development of the nature reserve.
As always, your photograph displays a fine composition and equally fine exposure.

What a bucolic and beautiful scene with that flock of sheep, grazing in those fields and a little dry, however they always find something to eat, ideal the farm with its wooded land and with a fence of bushes.
