Photographer's Note
This was taken today on the bridge that spans the tracks at Carlisle station.By good fortune I happened to pick up a copy of the Cumbrian News as I had lunch in a cafe in the Cumbrian market town of Brampton. An article mentioned a Facebook campaign to keep the colourfully decorated Carlisle station once the filming for an advert for Homebase (the home improvement store)had been completed at that location this morning. Two thousand people had signed up to the campaign. A tiny photo showed the decorated bridge and its steps. So despite planning to drive down to Penrith a change of plan saw me at Carlisle station in double quick time.
Platform 4 was set up like a Homebase store with wallpapered area, soft furnishing, lights etc. Some sections of the patform had been laid with plastic turf and sun loungers set out. Passengers were trying these out and many people had their cameras out too. Great fun. Unfortunately the plastic turf was already being rolled up and I don't suppose anyone visiting the station tomorrow will find much to see.A pity, and this temporary arrangement made me think just how usually unimaginative station platforms are.

Very interesting composition. It's great how the 2 policemen stand out against the colorful background. A well seen scene that's been captured in a wonderful manner.

Hello Bev,
Celebrating geometric lines as much as colors, you've produced a most engaging shot. With your thought provoking note, this is such a lovely contribution to Trekearth.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Bev,
An unusually decorated railway station! You really managed to take a very different photo here, with all the coloured stripes and the diagonal pattern. The green accents that the policemen provide makes this even better. A good picture and a good note!
Kind regards

Bev, good evening.
Well worth a trip to photograph this one. Lovely blast of color, and two policemen in the pictures as well. Very naughty, you know you are not supposed to photograph policemen.
A nice one for the history books.
All the best

Hello Bev,
A gorgeous picture and one of the most colourful scenes I've seen this side of India. The policemen make perfect additions to the composition and the title is very well chosen. This is a picture I didn't quite expect from Carlisle, but I am glad you changed your plans just to get this photo.
Thanks for sharing,
Gert

Well done, Bev! I appreciate your concern for the colour addition to th estation, but it would not be half as good without the police(wo)men. Their stance looks precarious, their backs make me smile.

Hi Bev
funny how two people simply standing there can chang the outlook of the entire shot. they provide a strong contrast, and also a vertical stance to offset all of the horizontal coloured lines.
great job here!

Well done, Bev!
Very well captured indeed. Just goes to show that we need to keep our wits about us if we are going to get once in a lifetime shots like this.
As Mike says, I rather think that we are not supposed to photograph policemen but the law concerning photographing people in general is pretty woolly. But the policemen add human interest. Great.
I was looking at your exif data - one-third of a second exposure! And hand-held, presumably. You must have a rock-steady hand because this picture is as sharp as a pin!
Excellent!
Best Wishes,
John.

Well seen, Bev, it must have been fate that you rush down there and here you get this photograph.
I, for one, am glad you did not get arrested. I would have been arrested several times already for all the cops I've shot, er, photographed...
They definitely make the shot, but then, two men or women holding hands would have done it, too. Just referring to the rainbow theme - more power to them is what I say.
Anyway, perfect shot, Bev, congratulations!
Have a great weekend,
Reed

Hello Bev,
This is just wonderful!
The colours and the patterns make a very strong statement and really jump off the screen!
The policemen, quite unaware of their capture, are nicely placed in the frame and your pov encourages us to share their view; are we becoming detectives and spying on criminals!
I just love it!!
Have a good Sunday,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev. When I see the photo, I first think of Moretti. The colored lines, the resulting two policemen and the grid a successful combination. Very nice. Regards, Wolfgang.

Hello Bev,
pleased to meet you.
I usually prefer landscape photography but here we have a genial composition and a rare scene. The combination of colours is really appealing and the two policemen observing create a very expressive image. I also like the black grating through which another enivironment is shown. So pleasant and interesting.
Well done,

Hello Bev,
I just saw this Homebase advert on the TV a night or so ago, and it reminded me that you had posted this shot.
I've been very remiss in not spending time writing critiques lately, though I do glance at the TE postings now and again.
This is another of your fine urban shots, full marks to you for grabbing the opportunity.
The broad sweep of the colours makes a powerful image, and the placing of the right hand policeman on a line of thirds gives added strength to the composition.
The view through the latticework of the station concourse adds good depth of perspective to the image too.
Is there anything left of the paintwork now, or has it all been returned to its original state?
Kind regards,
Peter.

Hi Bev!
This one is just great!
You had a considerable luck to capture this temporary event, a kinda photojournalist result that you obtained. Plus, the color composition and the bit of humor adds to the result, as well.
Best wishes,

Hi Bev,
Great capture here because the two policemen "going over the rainbow", seems to watch what it is happening without tension, but with serenity and calm, like two ordinary persons. If I connect this fact to the title I find it much funny and pleasant. Technically the photo is much valid , for his beautiful geometries and composition. Many compliments.
ciao, have a nice week end

Hi Bev, what a colourful scene. It's well composed too. It must have been very exciting to see the station done out so prettily, and it's a pity they couldn't keep it up longer

Hello Bev,
This composition comes together really well. Of course the rainbow stripes demand attention, but the lattice pattern, and the fact that the policemen have their backs to you, all add up to a great shot. It's always great to find surprises like this to photograph. :-)
