The Old Women

And now something quite different, even though this photo was taken quite close to my previous posts, both in terms of distance and in terms of time. The big difference, however, is the altitude. This photo was taken at around 2,250 metres in the Bucegi Mountains, which are part of the Southern Carpathians. The photo also shows the Bucegi Plateau, where wind and rain have formed these rock formations, which have got the name Babele (The Old Women). They can be reached by cable car from the town of Bușteni, which is also how we got there.

Hдr fick jag verkligen titta pе 'date taken' fцr att fцrstе att det дr frеn samma resa. Vilken otrolig skillnad pе klimat. Jag fick ocksе lдsa beskrivningen noga fцr att fцrstе att detta inte дr en skulpturgrupp skapad av en mдnsklig konstnдr utan av naturens egen konstnдr. Det дr ett fantastiskt "monument" och vдl vдrt det lilla besvдret och kylan.En riktigt intressant bild.

nice they are protected by fences, some people ever try to climb in such stones and can damage them. lovely the shapes, remind me mushrooms, not an old lady..

The snow is giving a natural frame tpo the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the rock formation. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nie day.

Het lijkt wel alsof je in een ander land terecht gekomen bent of tenminste in een ander seizoen gereisd hebt.
Prachtige grote 'schouwen' door de natuur gemaakt.

You are right, the feeling is completely different from previous shots. Those stones are certainly special. Those columns look like concrete. I really like mountain regions, but I'm not sure if I had chosen that as a destination on a grey May day.

Hi Lars,

An interesting group of rocks showing the effects of erosion. They look like mushrooms to me, and they stand out well against the snow. The landscape looks quite bleak with no trees. I presume the fence is there to stop people climbing the rocks.

Although I experienced similar differences in Poland or in California, it always is somehow shocking to see such a huge difference not only in weather but even in the season.
Very interesting rock formations. How little I know about Romania! I really have to visit someday!

before I opened this photo, I thought it was a winter view, but it's actually spring. The rock formations are definitely interesting, and so is the setting. That one, lone rock on the left side didn't get its own fence. How sad... ;-) Take care!

Unique rocks formation enable an imaginary figures by local tradition, Lars, like the isle-of-skye's old man of Stor, or Lot's wife above the southern part of the Dead Sea in Israel.
