Sf. Adormire Orthodox Church, a photo from Brasov, East

Photographer's Note

Like all Orthodox churches in the centre of Brasov this church is behind the houses in a yard not in the street. After the Orthodox lost the Baritiu street church to the Greeks there was only one solution left: Deacon Bartholomeu Baiulescu won the right to build the church in the centre. A chapel was built in Groaveri residential area and they started to collect money for the construction of the church. By 1894 they raise sufficient money so they started to build the church with the money donated by the 114 orthodox families living in centre of the town. In two years the Sf. Adormire church, built on the model of the Viennese Greek Church, was completed. The parish is in the street and a passageway leads to the church. The church is well adorned, the altar screen was made by the school in Brasov and the frescos were painted by an artist named Damian. The Byzantine style tower of the parish collapsed in the 1940 earthquake. It was rebuilt in 1972.

Hi Ovidiu,
On its own, the church is beautiful but your point of view and the beautifully filled foreground blazing with color makes it even better again. I have learned from your post too, I never knew that the churches would be on yards off the main streets. Thanks for a great photo and note!

Hello Ovidiu,
A very beautiful presentation of this church on a picture with striking colours!
You took the picture from a good angle and included well the plants and the flowers on the yard in front of the church. This way the photo got more depth.
The flowers make the FG brilliant with their vivid colours and create at the same time a nice contrast with the blue sky.

You found a strategic viewpoint point there, an absolutely beautiful shot and so close with the stunning flower beds guiding the eye constantly into the whole scene and the prominent eye catching building architecture. The combination of pastel cheery colours and deep blue sky is just the right ingredients to make it so soothing and appealing to the eyes rendering more punch and stand out so superbly. a wonderful combination of architecturally interesting background and colourful and playful foreground. They are both very attractive and, thanks also to the lovely blue sky, make a delightful whole. The church is nicely integrated in the row of buildings, you've captured all the architectural details with exceptional clarity. The light has a very fine quality and all the colours are lovely.
