Canoa Quebrada, a photo from Ceara, Northeast

Photographer's Note

Canoa Quebrada (Broken Canoe, in English) is a beach of the East coast of Cearб, of which landscape is characterized by dunes and reddish cliffs that reach up to 30 meters of height.

It used to be a little village that, after being discovered in the 1960s by French filmmakers of the "Nouvelle Vague" movement, suffered a cultural shock, resulting in a freedom feeling that rules there up to these days.

The village acquired fame after being discovered, in the 1970s, by the hippies who found this remote place, inhabited only by a native tribe and some fishermen.

The moon and the star sculpted on the cliff became a local symbol, but their origins are not known for sure, and there are a lot of versions told by the local people.

A fabulous close range view of the beach slope, dry and yet has some vegetation atop.
The carved sign maybe a tribute to Che - at least that's waht was my first thought about.

What an unusual beach and what lovely textures and tones. The landscape is fascinating, I love the colour and texture of the rock face. That they sculptured the name of the place into the rockface is also unusual and a little upsetting that they would damage this natural treasure. I hope they have chosen to protect the natural beauty of this place. Excellent work, the colours, sharpness, POV and composition are excellent.

A great land formation one which i guess, would all try to capture taken from good point of view, filled by brilliant clarity and the contrasting colours which seems to provide an endless textures running the entire length of the image. Interesting place and history which only the hippies can create. At first glance the symbol appears to be that of some country's flag. Nicely captured with good pov and sharp details. Wonderful colors with good saturation. Well done, tfs.

Hello Alexandre,

Clear, crisp shot, is the cliff on the sea or inland? Although you have a more recent photo on Trekearth, this one caught my eye immediately. The crescent and star comprise the Turkish flag. I wonder if the individuals carving on the cliff had a subtle message in mind?

Between 19 December 2015 and 3 January 2016, I will be on a cruise of the Crystal Symphony, visiting Brazil. I will be serving as a Special Topics Lecturer). I am very enthusiastic about the prospect of seeing your magnificent country.

Effective tight framing with punchy light contrasts & good sharpness. Wonderful warm cold color contrasts between the blue sky and pale cream yellow text and red earth. Good textural retails in the weathered cliff. Tfs.

This is an interesting view. My first impression was that the moon and star remind me of the Turkish flag. :-) It must have taken a lot of work to carve these symbols and words into the cliff. I like the rocky textures, and the blue sky at the top of the frame.

its always difficult to photograph sandstone color in such bright lighting, but this one worked out very well.

we can read the lettes easily, and the textures come out well too.

good to have the contrasting blue color up top.
