Photographer's Note

I took this shot on a camping trip at the end of September at the Roodeplaat Dam just north of Pretoria.
It was supposed to be spring, but everything was very dry. They had not had the rainfall expected for that time of the year. Two days after this photo was taken a veld fire destroyed a large part of this campsite.
It was a difficult shot, because I had no tripod. You have to carry all your camping gear yourself, and even a very lightweight tripod can become very heavy after 2 hours in temperatures above 40 celsius!

Nice sunset! I would have liked to see a little less of the trees (it may be a bit too cluttered) and some more of the sky (which looks very dramatic and colorful, so it's a pity that we don't see more of it). I would also have cropped out some of the black at the bottom of the picture.
