The Kasbah of Agadir, a photo from Agadir, South

Photographer's Note

The Kasbah of Agadir is a former 16th century fortress which was virtually destroyed by the earthquake of February 1960 in which some 15 000 people lost their lives, but the outline of eroding walls and an entrance arch are still visible today. It was built in 1540 to withstand the Portuguese attacks and was still inhabited before 1960.
The Kasbah itself is a ruin, there's not much to see of it, but it’s the only historic site in town and tourists get here to see the fine views back across the new modern city, the beach, the ocean and the busy port. Unfortunately, the Kasbah of Agadir has become somewhat of a tourist trap. When you arrive there, be prepared to be harassed by touts selling camel rides and trinkets, photo ops with squealing lambs and half-baked tours.
In the Workshop, you can see two photos taken from the surrounding wall of the Kasbah.

Seuls les contours des murs qui s’effritent ainsi qu’une porte d’entrйe sont encore visibles. Elle a йtй construite en 1540 pour rйsister aux attaques des Portugais et elle йtait encore habitйe avant 1960.
La kasbah en elle-mкme n’est qu’une ruine et il n’y a pas grand-chose а voir. Mais c’est l’unique site historique de la ville, et les touristes y viennent pour la vue imprenable sur la ville moderne, la plage, l’ocйan et le port animй. Malheureusement, la kasbah d’Agadir est devenue une sorte d’attrape-touristes. Une fois arrivй sur place, il faut se prйparer а кtre harcelй par les rabatteurs qui cherchent а vous vendre des tours а dos de dromadaire ainsi que des babioles, des sйances photo avec des agneaux au cri perзant et des visites guidйes vite torchйes.

fascinating shot this. This camel looks amazing, like some huge soft toy, if you know what I mean. Looks well cared for though and this shot has a lot of detail and gives us a great idea of the size and fortifications here. Wonderful image!

Beautiful closeup shot of this domesticated camel. I like the nice contrast between the camel's brown coat and the bright pink cloth lie to it. The WS photos are great too. They would have been great individual uploads as well. Excellent shot with superb colours and excellent clarity. Thanks for sharing.

De zichten van boven op de kasbah zijn werkelijk verbluffend!
Ik wist niet dat deze constructie zo hoog was.
Wanneer je naar de kop van de dromedaris kijkt, lijkt hij echt. Echter niet meer de poten.
Uitstekende diepte, scherpte en prachtige kleuren.

awesome capture, sweet and fun! I remember this place and I was lucky to explore it peacefully without any harassment:) What I didn't get to see then was this perfectly blue sky, it was pretty cloudy and misty though very hot. Excellent photo, thanks for the memories.

After looking at the WS pictures, I'm impressed you'd be able to concentrate on anything else...love those views from here! Great idea to use the camels as a main subject, detailing the transportation options, even if they are touristy. A good mix of natural and bright colors contained within this composition, and your positioning opens up nicely for depth. Maybe it's just the color, but this camel in front looks like a giant plush toy...a fuzzy teddy bear of sorts. :) Bright, sharp and well arranged. Bonne journйe. All the best.

Pourquoi ne redonne pas vie а l'enceinte pour une vocation hфteliиre, car selon votre mise en garde et les magnifiques vues en 'workshop' il y aurait matiиre а resurrection!
Une intense perspective est gйnйrйe par la vue des dromadaires en enfilade et ajoute un intйrкt exotique а la muraille.

Sympat le chameau en avant plan, le regard vers toi me fait sourire aussi avec la position de ces pattes et sa garniture rose, en plus il est bien cadrer laissant une vue apprйciable sur la forteresse, les deux WS sont super, quel vue fantastique sur la ville, et celle avec les ombres des remparts me plait bien aussi

Une trиs belle image qui me fait sourire. :-) Le chameau semble кtre en se posant pour que vous prenez la photo et vous montez sur lui. Tu as capturйes quelques belles couleurs, et trиs bien gйrйe la lumiиre difficile.
Trиs bon point de vue qui montre la profondeur et la pente de cet endroit.
Les WS sont aussi des belles photos, qui mйritaient кtre des photos principales.

Hello Christian - beautiful shot with a great perspective. The camel certainly dominates the left, but I love how you've placed him in context, counterbalanced him with the second camel and the man walking back into the frame. Very cool shot. Thanks!

Bright cheerful colours with good saturation and even the camels look happy! Good lighting and density levels with punchy light contrasts and excellent sharpness. I like the warm cold color contrasts between the yellow red camel and its pink saddle and the blue sky. Have a nice weekend!

I like the surroundings as well, which gives us a good idea about the place. The man in blue walking away from you looks like the camel's owner..I have seen pictures of these people in Morocco always dressed in blue gowns. Good picture!

interesting note, and hey, I appreciate your total honesty about it being a tourist trap - we as travelers need to know this.

as for the photo itself, I love it simply for the camel and how its sitting.

As you could imagine, we don't get to see too many Camels here in Canada haha
so to see it's legs folded like this is pretty darn cool and actually educational.
