The Mohammed V mosque is the biggest mosque in Agadir. It was built in the 1980s in the new Talborjt area which was rebuilt after the violent earthquake of 29 February 1960. King Mohammed 5th decided then to build the new city on a plain, two kilometres away from the ravaged areas, in order to keep it away from the area considered to be high-risk. On this Friday, the day of prayer for Muslims, men walk in the big door especially for them, whilst women have to access the mosque by a much smaller side door. Unlike Turkey where youre allowed to visit mosques, one legacy of the French Protectorate is the law forbidding non-Muslims entry into the mosques, so here in Morocco you may only appreciate the external walls.
