Photographer's Note

A scene depicting the pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three large pyramids of Giza. It dates from the 26th century BC. A failed attempt was made by Al-Aziz Uthman, Saladin's son and the Sultan of Egypt, to demolish all of the pyramids in 1196 AD. All that they accomplished was a large vertical gash on the northern side of the one pyramid. No further efforts were made due to the high cost and painstakingly slow and expensive cost of destroying them.
