Strange sensations, a photo from Matruh, Inland

Photographer's Note

We live in strange feeling, walking among the tombstones of the shrine of El Alamein , reading inscriptions on the young age of so many innocent boys died in this war ... and this guy is an example visibly moved.
In the pic the Commonwealth war cemetery with graves of soldiers from various countries who fought on the British side. This has monuments commemorating Greek, New Zealand, Australia, South African and Indian forces. Note that the remains of United States soldiers were not buried here. The Commonwealth cemetery, as is common at many such cemeteries in the world, consists of parallel rows of gravestones, each one bearing an engraving of the deceased soldier's unit emblem, his name and an epitaph from his family.

Si vivono delle strane sensazioni ,passeggiando tra le lapidi del sacrario inglese di El Alamein,leggendo sulle lapidi le giovanissime etа di tanti ragazzi innocenti morti in questa guerra...e questo ragazzo visibilmente commosso и un esempio.
Questo e' il il Cimitero del Commonwealth, con le tombe dei soldati dai vari paesi che hanno combattuto dal lato britannico. Vi sono monumenti che commemorano le forze australiane, sudafricane, greche e della Nuova Zelanda. Il cimitero del Commonwealth, come molti altri simili cimiteri, consiste in file parallele di lapidi, ciascuna con inciso l'emblema dell'unitа del soldato defunto, il suo nome e un epitaffio.

A fine capture of this poignant moment. I like the point of view looking obliquely across the gravestones. Also, the contrast with the greenery in the background. You have managed the harsh lighting very well.

Questa tua intensa foto mi colpisce e mi commuove per diversi motivi, amico mio. Non te li elenco tutti, sarebbero troppi, te ne scrivo solo due. Il primo: qui c'й un cimitero di guerra che risale al conflitto del 15-18. Talvolta ci vado e cammino tra le piccole tombe; leggo i nomi: austriaci, ungheresi, polacchi, slavi...tutti i ragazzi che hanno combattuto e lasciato la pelle in nome di un Impero e di una guerra idiota. Sulla quale non aggiungo altri commenti perchи forse dissentiresti...io non smetterт mai di essere un'asburgica convinta.
La seconda ragione: mio suocero, comandante di lungo corso, italianissimo, ha subito l'affondamento della sua nave da parte degli Inglesi; e ovviamente ormai parlo della Seconda Guerra. Deportato in un campo di concentramento in India, vi и poi morto a 35 anni. Lo hanno sepolto a Bombay, in un cimitero proprio come questo. Mio marito e io siamo andati lм proprio per cercare il suo nome tra migliaia di lapidi. Come certo sta facendo questo ragazzo. Noi non abbiamo trovato il nome che cercavamo, spero che il ragazzo sia stato piщ fortunato.

Such war cemeteries are indeed interesting. All the tombs are identical, in regular rows, creating interesting patterns, usually very well kept, with flowers cared by gardeners. But so sad, as the war victims were so young boys, full of hope, somewhere far away from their homes. I was in similar place in Tunisia. Great inclusion of this Indiana Jones

Ciao Luciano, questa foto и molto solenne, e rispettoso. Purtroppo ce ne sono troppi di questi cimiteri di tutto il mondo, in cui i giovane migliori di ogni paese si trovano in pace. Ottima simmetria qui. La ripetizione delle lapidi rafforza l'idea di milioni di giovani uomini e donne che hanno dato la loro vita durante la guerra. Mi ripeto......ad un posto al sole ci credevano ...mio padre col fratello avevano una bella tenuta ....chiesta in vendita ..per niente da arabi ed... ...avendo avuto l'ordine tutti gli ufficiali di non lasciare nulla di utile agli inglesi.
Un po di esplosivo e non restт nulla , casa colonica pozzi , alberi ecc.
Come testimoni in ritirata ...mitragliati dagli aerei fino a Tunisi ...molti cimiteri ...

Most times, Luciano, I do not like to comment about cemeteries - but this has a different reason:
Those soldiers who burried here, fought and stopped the German forces to enter Egypt. Unless they did this - from there the road to the land of Israel would be empty of major army forces, and they could do whatever did in Europe to the jews lived in what was the British mandate in israel.
So, the gesture is well shown, well conveyed MSG, and fine pic. outcome.
