when you were small?

Well obviously very leafy :-)

I lived from my 5 years until my 22 years, outside Belgium, and in particular in Congo, Belgian initially, then DRC then Zaire and again maintaining RDCongo.

Here it is a sight of the family car, between 1968 and 1971, in a small road close to the caves of Thysville, also called Mbanza-Ngungu, to a hundred kilometers in the south-west of the capital, Kinshasa.

Marvellous caves of which one, of a difficult access, comprised, I hope that there is always, of fish plug, moving to luminescence, the scientists could say some more.

Small anecdote, we had left to two, doubting nothing, to visit this cave which is submerged per stormy weather, and while returning after a few hours, we missed the exit and we realized some only with the absence of traces of step in the sand of the ground, hello the anguish.

Fortunately the chance smiles to unconscious since I am there to speak about it!

With this place tropical, it has of course seasons there when this kind of visit is not possible, initially because the vehicles do not pass, too much of mud, and then because the caves are drowned, quite simply.

And the photographs which I received from over there, the year still spent, do not show significant changes of the road network.

Precision: the grasses which exceed the roof of the car briskly are called "grass with elephants", the edges of the sheets are sharp like a razor... bitter experiment. The trees usually have a 30 meters height...

La photo me plaоt et dйgage une impression de nostalgie, la voiture йtant envahie de vйgйtation et sur un chemin peu carrossable...

En voyant la photo, cette 404 semble abandonnйe mais en lisant la note, je me rend compte que c'est une situation normale!
En tout cas, cela vaut la peine de nous prйsenter des photos de ce pays (trиs peu reprйsentй sur TE)
C'йtait notre ancienne colonnie et j'espиre pouvoir un jour le visiter...

Gidday Claude! What a good shot of this little car among the tall grasses - it looks like a toy Tonka car. Very interesting - as long as a giant doesn't come with a lawnmower and mow down the grass and the car!
What an interesting childhood you must have had. And thank you for sharing all this with us, it is good to know more about you. Thank you.

Une Peugeot 404, c'est un morceau de ma jeunesse йgalement. Les souvenirs ressurgissent, les regrets parfois, mais la vie est devant nous, voyons loin !
Photo impressionnante, un lieu а ne pas tomber en panne !

Techniquement cette phot n'est pas parfaite, mais elle me plait bien pourtant, comme quoi... Il s'en dйgage une atmosphиre curieuse, mйlange d'exotisme et de nostalgie. Je prйcise que je prend "exotisme" dans le bon sens du terme, je n'arrive pas а en trouver un plus adaptй pour exprimer une sensation d'кtre totalement ailleurs, dйstabilisйe par un paysage loin de mon quotidien. Quant а la nostalgie, elle est йvidente dans cette 404 pleine de souvenirs, le N&B et surtout bien sыr ta note, trиs touchante. Bravo!

PS : sans aucun rapport, je regrette bien que tu aies dы supprimer les photos de l'Atomium! Vive le droit d'auteur :^(

eh bien dit donc on ne croit pas voir dessiner de route...c'est toute une histoire cette photo...je suis allйe au kйnya, cependant il y avait un semblant de piste...ici l'image est bien rendue...on pense que la voiture crйe son chemin toute seule dans ces hautes herbes...le noir et blanc relate une vieille anecdote comme la note...bien vu et merci pour ce partage...amicalement BI

Je cherchais des photos de RDC. Suis tombй sur la vфtre. Merci pour cette note trиs intйressante, et pour cette photo d'une autre йpoque, qui me rappelle les livres d'aventure que je lisais enfant (notamment le tour du monde en 2CV de Sйguйla ; ou mкme Tintin...)
