Photographer's Note
The eruption of the Fogo Island volcano in November 2014 was followed by gigantic lava flows. They spread over two villages in the caldera, destroying the homes of the 1700 inhabitants, evacuated in time. The view seen from its houses surrounded by lava is really impressive! But here, the population has been active in the reconstruction of the village between the crater slope that we see in the background and the high Pico do Fogo (previous post).

Hello,
I've seen this kind of scenery but on a smaller scale at Etna, in Sicily. Spectacular image, amazing volcanic textures.

Excellent capture of this fascinating landscape. I like the contrasts in colour and texture between the foreground and background. Good choice of the vertical format and fine technical realisation.

Bonjour Jean,
Mais on peut aussi constater quelques pousses de verdure un peu éparpillées dans le paysage de cendre et de lave. Le cadrage vertical apporte une belle profondeur à l'ensemble.
Amicalement

A sad but interesting place, I think the volcano dont want to sleep in the next time, the village has to be built in another place. Very well captured

Hello Jean,
Great photo of the slopes of the volcano and the dark rocks in the foreground, showing the dramatic consequences of the recent eruption. The bright light shows every detail at its best with good sharpness and clarity. The blue sky adds a good colour contrast.

Bonjour Jean,
C'est vraiment un endroit dangereux à vivre quand la lave peut couler si près de la pente.
En outre, c'est un environnement très sévère.
Un fort contraste noir et blanc au premier plan.

Hello Jean,
Good sharpness and wonderful warm cold colour contrasts between the blue sky and the rust red slopes of the active volcano. I'm surprised that the locals want to go back. Tfs!

Hi Jean
Excellent informative shot, indeed a dramatic scenery backed by that gigantic backdrop and sea of black lava sand - two strong points of this capture. Touch of the green survivor lends this an extra depth and colour booster. Excellent piece, Congrats

Scène dramatique de la nature, cela me fait penser à Etna en Sicile!!
Impressionnant de voir le reste du village, fantastique montagnes, bien les couleurs vert et bleu pour donne de la gaieté

Hi Jean.
Impressive image of the wild slopes of the volcano, and incredible as the locals have built their houses in a landscape so barren, a difficult life in an environment that remains risky. Some tree next to the escarpment and it seems that a tiny piece of land that can produce something ....
Magnificent color, which gives great strength to the image.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Jean,
Wow, a modern-day Pompeii! (Of sorts.) Can one actually walk on the rocks and go closer to the houses?

Bonjour Jean,
That must have been an extraordinary experience to stand there just few years after the volcano eruption. I suppose it could feel dangerous. Incredible sight. Excellent reportage. I wonder whether one can still see some volcanic activity there
