Well if I shoot 6 photos with my 8 megapixels camera and assemble them with a software, eliminating the necessary overlapping for the stitching I come to more or less 40 MP.
I prefer better noise handling to the multiplication of pixels ! |

It's a large format camera so doesn't compare with your 4x8MP images.

I know but I couldn't let this opportunity go to mention that I prefer a camera that handles noise perfectly to one that has plenty of MP !!!

I think that's too many pixels for just 256 tones of colour. If you imagine the photo as an height map it has too many steps, while for it's size it should be smoother. Anyway it serves as a great digital zoom :D
Great for astronomy, not so great for photograpy, me thinks. |

I maybe wrong but, 3 channel as RGB, 256 tone for each channels, so 3 to the power of 256 = 16 772 216 different shade of colours. But I'm sure it is more complicated than that. But than again, the first advantage of having a very large sensor with a lots of pixels is to get the highest resolution as possible. The rendering of the colour is down to how the single pixel can handle the capture of the colour. This type of digital back for hasselblad is mainly used by pro that mainly use them in studio to produce large billboard poster. I think. And they usually don't buy the equipment, but rent it. |
