Ken,
Was this taken before or after the earthquake? Bagan is truly a magical locale and you've done a fine job of bringing out the sense of scale of the place . Well done. Cheers,
Andy

There was an earthquake in 1975, and a number of temples including this one were affected, so indeed repairs were carried out. And of course, we had the 6.8 earthquake 24/8/2016. In this latter instance, the Sulamani Temple suffered the greatest damage. I took these photos in February 2008 on my private tour to Myanmar. I will be uploading more of these temples in the weeks ahead. I had a super guide who had worked for UNESCO or some such organization and spent time in India as an archaeologist.
I should draw your attention to the Internet posting: ibtimes.co.uk/earthquake-damages-historic-buddhist-temples.......... where you can see excellent photos of the damage done to both the Htilominlo and Sulamani Temples in August 2016. Thanks, Ken Last edited by Sardonik; 11-05-2016 at 01:33 AM. |
