I was a month in burma during the winter of 2006/2007 but you know, I never did see the Shwedagon Pagoda!? There was so much to see and do that I always put it off until later saying to myself that I could always go there just before I have to leave -- but of course I didnt ;(
I am thinking of going back this winter and after viewing your photo I will be sure to go straight away to the pagoda!
I just sent you an email Antonio asking for any advice you might have on current travel conditions in burma, thanks in advance if you can help in anyway!
Take care,
Steve |

Great shot with you D300/18-200mm combo. The only thing that I would say is that you might try to increase bring the Red building out of the shadows with Capture NX. It also would be nice if you include more of the Photo info and have you found NX slow?
I have found it slow when using it on RAW photos. |

there are several ways in which i think it could be improved upon. the out of focus fence is fairly distracting and serves no purpose being so bokeh'ed.
its a contrasty photo which is great but the highlights are a little blown resulting in little definition between his left hand and coat/shirt -- they kinda meld together.
i kinda wish you woulda tried a more up front view of him and also i dont quite like the expression/pose you caught him in as it makes him appear a little "out of it" -- though maybe he was so in that case ignore that last comment! ;)
but its a very solid start to your travels here on TE and i look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
lastly, please give us a note next time!!!!

when posting to TE you should consider what it is you hope to gain in terms of accolades/critiques -- in regards to this photo what could be said? its a crude snapshot of your lunch. I cant imagine you put much thought into taking this photo, therefore how much thought could i put into critiqueing it?
i dont mean to discourage you by what i said, but this photo is so banal that it really has no business here on TE. I think you could do better and i look forward to your future posts.
regards,
steve |

I've nothing technical to nitpick but i will say that i would prefer that you hadnt cut the shadow of the foreground cross off. also, i think the category 'decisive moment' might not fit with the content of this photo(but that is extreme nitpicking on my part so I'll shut up now! ;)
the child standing alone and his body language and especially his height in comparison to the crosses all combine to deliver a very powerful message in the mind of the viewer on the fragility of life.
very good post,
steve
p.s. both your posts are very good, keep writing critiques to generate more traffic to your own galleries and you'll get the accolades/feedback we all desire.... for a first post your photo titled 'Neuchatel' got a great response. |

its a strange scene with an equally strange tilt and motion.
you know those fun houses found at amusement parks where you go inside the house and everything is on a tilt and you try to walk through -- well thats the feeling i get from this photo..... its as if the worlds axis shifted suddenly and created a planet sized fun house for the 6 billion+ inhabitants to enjoy!
unique photo Joni, well done.

Jom is right though, its a little soft -- but its not necessarily a lack of sharpening thats doing it, i think its a lack of contrast. so i did a workshop and converted it to B&W in the process -- if you get a chance let me know what you think.
great scene though and it reminds me of nursing myself back to health with the outstanding bowls of oatmeal that can be found in guesthouses and restaurants in Dali!
take care,
