Photographer's Note

Newnes is an old shale oil (for producing kerosene) mining settlement tucked in a valley on the western side of the Blue Mountains. Only ruins remain. As well as shale oil the area had its own coal mine and this photo is of coke ovens for preparing the coal for processing the shale.

Taken with the recently released wide angle Irix 15mm lens.
