Photographer's Note

This building is on the grounds of the old MedField State Hospital, in Medfield MA. It is right in the front of the complex, at the end of the long driveway; perhaps it served as an administration building.

The hospital was built in 1892 and opened in 1899 as Medfield Insane Asylum. At its height it included 58 buildings, on a property of some 1.4 sq mi (3.6 km2), and a capacity of 2,200 patients. It raised its own livestock and produce, and generated its own heat, light and power. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, the property was closed in April 2003 and the buildings shuttered. The grounds have been reopened to the public and are open every day from 6 am to 6 pm. It has been used as a filming location for major motion pictures such as Shutter Island and The Box. (from Wikipedia)

The grounds are huge. Most of the old buildings are still there, but they are all shuttered and you cannot go into any of them. The exteriors seem in decent shape, as you can see here, but I assume that the interiors are a complete disaster. A cleanup and reopening would likely be very expensive. There are some interior photos (not taken by me) here.
