Photographer's Note

This is the 24th photograph from my trip to Turkey and 1st one from Saklikent Gorge.

Trekking lasted 3 weeks and its route includes the most interesting places in Turkey:

Istanbul - Izmir - Selcuk - Efez - Dilek National Park - Pammukale - Fethiye - Saklikent Gorge - Olu Deniz - Antalya - Termessos - Kapadokya - Istanbul.

At last we left Selcuk and took bus to the south. We stayed in Fethiye which is located 135 kms southwest of Marmaris. It`s pretty town at the hillsides of the Mount Mendos, the part of the Tourus Mountain chains, and surrounds the bay that it has given its name to. The high mountain range formed by rises and falls of the crust during the Tertiary Geological Period, and hundreds of bays lying at the mountainside seem to embrace each other along the Fethiye shore line. Dry, long, hot summers and short, warm, rainy winters are climatic characteristics of this area.

Not many of you might know it is one of the most popular touristic sites in the world (and one of the cheapest). There is so much to see around. The list is very very long so you may even think about trip to Turkey for the Fethiye and its surrounding only: Araxa - water spring, Letoon - a holy city, the ancient city of Cadianda, Telmessos, Likya Rocky Tombs, Fethiye Castle, ldeniz (Blue Lagoon) referred as "The Eden bestowed by God to World", Kelebekler Vadisi (Butterfly Valley), Saklıkent (Hidden City), fantastic beaches and much more...

We spent just the mornings and evenings in the town as we tried to concentrate on exploring its area during the day.

Many people recommended us this amazing place which is much better against a torrid than any cold drink. Saklikent is situated near Toros, between Fethiye and Kas. It`s called Hidden Valley as well and it`s well known as the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey - 18 km long and so steep and narrow that the sun does not penetrate the water, leaving it deliciously icy-cold in the summer. But You can walk just one kilometer through water to reach Saklikent. It would be quite dangerous to explore the rest of its deep canyon. It makes great impression anyway, You can see the sky occasionaly. You feel yourself on a different planet among high rocks. First you walk thru the natural style bridge and then along the path in the canyon. Don`t forget to have a mud bath. Just be carefull with your equipment :-)

Taken with 10d and wide angle lens. Unfortunatelly I didn`t take my tripod with me that day. I would get much more control on such photos but somehow I managed to use the long exposure to blur a water.

Hope you like it!
