Saz in the Subway

As I was traversing the tunnels of the subway system, I came across this saz player. According to Wikipedia, "saz" actually refers to a family of plucked string instruments, long-necked lutes used in Ottoman classical music, so, I should have called this instrument a bağlama. However, we dont make the distinction in Turkish and use the word saz indiscriminately. Like the Western lute and the Middle-Eastern oud, bağlama has a deep round back, but a much longer neck. It can be played with a plectrum or with a fingerpicking style known as şelpe.
