Photographer's Note

Istanbul Commodity Exchange was established on 24 October 1924. After operating on two rented locations, it acquired the then abandoned Hamidiye Madrasa on 24 May 1925. Hamidiye Madrasa is one of the buildings of a complex built in 1780. Other than the madrasa, the complex included an imaret (public soup kitchen), an elementary school, a sebil, a fountain, an arasta (cluster of stores selling the same commodity), a library, a masjid, a mausoleum and a graveyard. By 1918, the complex had fallen into ruins.

The workshop contains a view of this building from the Bankers Avenue.
