Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

I recently posted photographs of Ripley Castle, situated in a small Yorkshire village called Ripley. The Ingilby family have owned the castle for over 700 years.

Please click here to see the photograph in large format.

One of the members of the Ingilby family lived in France before inheriting the castle and when he came to Ripley he had the village remodelled in the style of a French one where he lived in Alsace. The buildings certainly are beautiful and the town hall has stone lettering reading "Hotel de Ville" which is town hall in French!

Further French links, in 2014, the Tour de France came via Ripley on its way to Harrogate. There is a cycle path between Ripley and Harrogate called the Nidderdale Greenway which is part of the National Cycle Route. I spotted cyclists cycling through the village, which I will add as workshop.

I enjoyed posting this, especially as we have sadly just left the European Union.

In March 2017, the village was named number 17 out of the 20 Best Villages in Britain in which to live.

Have a good Sunday, Bev :-)
