Photographer's Note
Kosciuszko Mound erected by Cracovians in commemoration of the Polish national leader Tadeusz Kościuszko, is an artificial mound modeled after Kraków's prehistoric mounds of Krak and Wanda. A serpentine path leads to the top, approx. 326 metres (1,070 ft) above sea level, with a panoramic view of the Vistula River and the city. It was completed in November 1823. The location selected for the monument was the natural Blessed Bronisława Hill (Polish: Wzgórze bł. Bronisławy), also known as Sikornik, situated in the western part of Kraków's Zwierzyniec District.
Kościuszko Mound is one of Kraków's four memorial mounds, consisting of two prehistoric mounds, Krakus Mound and Wanda Mound, and two modern ones, Piłsudski Mound and Kościuszko Mound.
Between 1850 and 1854, the Austrian authorities built a brick citadel around the Mound and began using it as a strategic lookout. As compensation for an earlier historical church that had been demolished, a neo-Gothic chapel of Blessed Bronisława was also built. However, the Austrian fortifications, including the gateway and the southwestern rampart and entrenchment were eventually dismantled following World War II, between 1945 and 1956.
Next to the Mound there is a museum devoted to Kościuszko, that displays artifacts and mementoes of his life and achievements. In 1997, heavy rains eroded the Mound, thus threatening its existence. It went through a restoration process from 1999 till 2003 in which state-of-the-art technology and modern materials were used. The Mound was equipped with a drainage system and a new waterproofing membrane.
Kościuszko Mound inspired Count Paul Strzelecki, Polish patriot and Australian explorer, to name the highest mountain in Australia Mount Kosciuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kościuszko Mound in Kraków.- from wik

cześć Piotrze, wybrałeś się tylko do Krakowa, czy może po drodze do Zakopanego? Wyobrażam sobie, ze na halach tatrzańskich jest teraz mnóstwo krokusów. Chciałabym to kiedyś zobaczyć. Ładny widok na Kopiec i tę bramę. wspiąłeś sie na górę?
Pozdrawiam MAłgorzata

Hi Piotr
That's what I call the aged beauty of this chapel with its deep matured brown colour backed by the defensive system behind. A proud looking edifices as seen thru your lens with excellent perspective and depth. Characterful with its own charm blended with subtle low light and colour rendition.
Addition of enthusiastic people produced an interesting overall shot and suffice to say, this appeals the eyes and you have accomplished the lens work superbly, Congrats
PS; Thanks to your useful in-depth narratives
Best regards

Hello Piotr,
I didn't see this place, and judging from this photo I may have missed something interesting. The mound looks amazing, and the Neo-Gothic wall provides a great foreground. The light is very good and the soft play of shadows on the wall is very attractive.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Piotr,
The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the church, of the fortress and of the mound. The light is enhancing the colors. My main computer is not working, I am using my tablet to access internet, have a nice day.

Bonjour Piotr,
J'aime beaucoup cette photographie à la perspective un petit peu faussée qui donne l'impression que la colline est collée sur le bâtiment en premier plan. Mais les gens au sommet rétablissent la réalité des choses.
Amicalement

Australia's highest peak bears the same name. It was named by Strzelecki. "The first recorded European ascent was by Polish explorer Paul (Pawel) Edmund Strzelecki in 1840. Strzelecki named the peak after its similarity to the tomb of the Polish patriot Kosciuszko."
