Photographer's Note

The town of Nesebar/Nessebar/Nessebyr is situated on the Black Sea shore, 36 km northeast of Burgas. It is a one of the most prominent tourist destinations and seaports on the Black Sea.
The town was established more than 3200 years ago. The traces of past historical periods are everywhere. It is a city-museum. In 1983 Old Nesebar was included in the List of World Cultural Heritage Sites of UNESCO.
Nesebar is a picturesque town in the region of Burgas, situated on a small peninsula, connected with the mainland with a narrow man-made isthmus.
The town of Nesebar is one of the oldest towns in Europe. The first ancient Thracian settlement was called Mesambria, it was founded in the 2nd century AD.
Nesebar is best known for the old town on the peninsula. A new part of Nesebar was built on the mainland as a resort of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera.
The compact old town is full of monuments dating back to different historical periods. There are about 80 houses in the typical local style, high stone foundation and first floor built of wood. It is interesting that there are 41 churches (or ruins of churches) on the small peninsula. The largest number of buildings date from 11th to 14th centuries. The town is a labyrinth of cobbled streets, at the entrance to the old town is an old historic windmill.
