Photographer's Note

Most people who go to the Great Wall from Beijing visit Badaling. While this is an impressive site the Wall at Badaling has been almost completely restored to its former glory.

The trek to Simatai from Beijing is only a little bit further, but in my opinion definitely worth the trip. There has been very little restoration done at Simatai and it is much less crowded. I really enjoyed seeing how well the Wall has held up over the centuries.

I visited both locations and while I prefered Simatai if you have the time and resources then it is worth seeing both.
